I like it! The second Il-76 appears to have its nose pointed downward on approach. I have noticed this seems characteristic of the Il-76 as it lands. Why is this?

That is a great photo, 4 Il-76 at once!

The nose pointed downward it's tipically of aircrafts with the high wing like e.g. Fokker F-27 or ATR-42/72. It's simply aerodinamics...

Cool. I am just wodering why our RA AF use the civil flag instead of stars. (I am from Russia - but the system makes me expat for no reason).

Perfect pic of a mighty planes! No matter is it Antartica, Sahara or Siberia, the IL-76 is omnipresent.

Having the nose pointing downwards means that the landing speed is slightly above the right one for that weight. the wings are producing too much lift (flaps) so the pilot have to lower the nose leading to a low angle of attack (sometimes neg).
It have a big advantage... in case of a go around/engine failure... the aircraft have already engines running at high rpm.

A very interesting picture, Igor!

Beautiful Il-76s, I love them! Excellent shot of the 4 smokers. My vote! Yes the nose is pointed down on high-wing aircraft, noticeable also on the Dash-8 for example, especially in landing configuration. The thing with the Il-76 is the downward angle on the wings, which I guess also affects its attitude? Waiting for someone to further discuss the topic :)

Great shot! Pskov is one of the best airports in the world to take photos of Il-76s but only on operating days. But be aware of the Military Police!

The 2nd IL-76 looks like an eagle, with its talons stretched down and its wings spread as it swoops down to catch some prey. :)

EXCELLENT photo! I love this plane! Its one of the best airlifters in the world and such an awesome rugged & super-tough Russian design. Looks like a science-fiction alien dropship!! Nosedown approach is a trademark of this type of plane. Long live smoky noisy engines!! Nice to see this amongst all the boring quiet efficient new turbofans! I love the "headlights" hee hee.

Such a daunting angle on the IL76, and the depth of field with the incoming jets is equally daunting...

Magnificent photos highlighting the conditions these monsters can work on. Il-76's are beautiful in their own right. PS-90 engines a must for being Enviro friendly. Hear these have the lowest cost of miles/passenger/gallon stats among the transports?.

I thought only the MF have these engines. These here look more like the D-30KP...

In regards to the nose down attitude. On any aircraft, the centre of (lift) pressure moves rearward with flaps deployed, hence the nose down appearance. Nothing unusual or specifically related to high-wing design. Most of us are so used to seeing airliners with highly swept wings and the high angle of attack (nose up) needed for lift at low speeds. The wings are anhedral as opposed to dihedral. The design is a payoff between stability and manoeuvrability. BTW, great photo! The depth of field is spot on.
