If one had an opportunity fly in formation with a space shuttle orbiter in the Earth's atmosphere, it would look like this. I purposely chose to have Earth background so that a sense of scale and depth can be gleaned. With commander Charles Hobaugh at the controls, "Atlantis" executed a sweeping right overhead turn to lose altitude and speed to line up for landing. The two sonic booms heralding the arrival in Florida occurred just prior. Welcome home "Atlantis"! Dear President Obama, Please keep them flying!

Evry now and then you see a photograph that makes you say "man I wish I had taken that photo". This may be that ultimate photograph. 5 stars does not do this justice. You can now retire. You have reached the mountain top.

This must be very close to touchdown, as shuttle flies a deep glider style dive all the way down to maintain speed.

Suresh, Just when your brilliant & incredible Space Shuttle coverage was getting boring, you come up with this! Since its inception, Shuttle have been one of the most photographed space vehicle and this maybe one of the top 3 from millions of shots that are out there. Thank you for 'bringing us up close' for something we could only imagine before. Truely a gem.
