No sand on the beach, no babes in tiny Bikinis and with Beer o'clock still a few hours away me and my wife needed a good excuse to leave the BBQ party at the Sonesta...this extremely low KLM approach over Maho was the highlight of our trip, I was so glad we made it!

Since when was this clear beach full of rocks, except for the small ones against the road?

Unusual Maho Beach scenery and an aircraft which is brought very much alive in this capture.

A very high tide! Must be

It could still be high tide but there still wouldn't be this many rocks and rocks of this size. This must be an older photo. I know for sure it isn't like this. Look at the photos from the same angle closer to the road. Not like this at all.

Looks like this was taken shortly after the hurricane in 08(?)

So far, out of most all the photos I've ever seen from this airport approach, this is one of the lowest, and it's a good thing there were no people on the beach.

It's not the tide. After a strong storm (quite common in the Lesser Antilles during late summer and fall) the sand on Maho sometimes gets washed out and swept away. They truck it back regularly and pour it over the boulders you see in this pic.

The big boulders are a known feature of this beach, look at photo 0713366.
