747 stars for this picture!!! Great livery stunt Boeing! This plane should have name with the (The)Incredible(s): covering the bulk of the development team and original test crew, if they don't decide to spread the names across the different aircraft, i.e, Joe Sutter, Brian Wygle, etc. The expected blue colours would have been too predictable so thanks for the pleasant surprise. It would really rock if they have set of colour variations for the test flights. With a bit of fantasy one can make out the number 747 from the smoke patterns around the tail. This plane looks set for a destiny not unlike that of the Mercedes-Benz W126 S-Class series of 1979-1993: not too warmly received initially but went on to beat every other mainstream luxury car and enjoyed a legacy-packed record production run of 12 years, and is still able not to look out of place on todays roads! thank you Boeing!

Hmm, with the plug forward of the wings, I wonder how they will do first class boarding vs coach boarding...

Outstanding aircraft. That aircraft definitely stand apart from the other 747s. Nice shot of boeing's new (I guess) 'orange' livery and great angle. Thanks again Royal for all the great Everett shots you put up for us to enjoy.

The passenger model finally arrived. And the paint scheme looks great (reminds slightly... VERY slightly) the one in RA001 (which is great). Very sleek bird. Aesthetics must be present in an airliner, should be. The 747 is the proof of that. Technology, huge size AND beauty can happily co-exist...

LONG LIVE THE ONE AND ONLY QUEEN OF THE SKIES XD!!!

7474ever!!!

I must admit it's been a while since I've felt emotional about an airplane. Boeing has done it again and outdone themselves at that. But what's with the colors? Was, after drawing this beauty, no money left in the design budget to look for something less hideous, which, in all honesty, would have been anything? Makes this technological masterpiece look like a hippy van. Boo to that, but bravo to Boeing :)

A bold move for Boeing, putting out an updated 42 year old design. Not sure about the orange/red colour scheme though. Hope it's successful next to the A380.

Maybe a faint nod to Braniff and Big Orange? Exclusive as usual, Mr. King - how DO you manage to get these inside shots? Tsk tsk

The length. This is a long bird! To my opinion is the blue boeing livery much nicer. But I think most airlines will think that the 748 is an in between and choose otherwise!

Beautiful aircraft sure, but it is 60,s technology, give me the A380 any day.

All I can say is WOW, this plane has been around since the 60s and 70s, and back then she was queen of the skies, and you know what! She still is. I'll fly a 747 over a380 anyday. Good job of capturing this beauty, Royal!

Used to love the -200's. The upper deck on the 400's and 8i is just way to long...

The comment about this being 60s technology really isn't true. The 747-8 has brand new engines, wings, and lots of other new technology that bring it into the 21 century. And if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The 747 is an extremely safe, reliable, and successful plane.

Best aircraft ever build! A 40 plus yr design indeed and she will linger on for another 40.

Instead of Air New Zealand retiring all there Boeing 747-400s, why can't they just get the NEW Boeing 747-800?
