Was informed the night before that ZK-OKT would be operating the flight. This aircraft is one the leased aircraft Air New Zealand are currently using while the issues with their 787s are sorted out.
This aircraft is a Boeing 777-35E leased from EVA Air from Taiwan. Still in full EVA livery but on the New Zealand register as ZK-OKT.

My understanding that this is the first time Air New Zealand have operated a 777-300 into Adelaide.

Was an early start to the day. Where we were staying wasn’t far from the airport, so we got there fairly quickly, returned the hire car and headed off to check in. Again for an international flight it was self check in. We got seats 65A/B. Down the back.

At first the aircraft was at a stand off bay.

Our original departure time was 8:45 AM, but that was put back to 9:15, then 9:45 AM.
Then the screens showed gate 16, which is on the opposite side of the international terminal, so a lengthy walk to get there. At least there were plenty of travelators.

Boarding was called so we finally got on board about an hour late.

Again for a shorty like me, legroom wasn't a problem.

Flight appears full and the seat next to us was quickly taken.

Take Off from Auckland.

A smooth take off from Auckland and a fairly smooth climb. Not as bumpy as I expected passing through the cloud layers.

Meal choices are scrambled eggs with chicken sausages and potatoes or cinnamon pancake with apple compote. Plus the usual tea/coffee etc.

Dad and I both went for the eggs and sausage option.

Was smooth over the Tasman, but over land started to get a little bumpy.

With about an hour to go a sandwich was served.

Descent into Adelaide got quite bumpy in places and landed with a thump.

Waited for the crowd to go and had a chat with the flight crew about this being a leased aircraft and the first Air New Zealand 777-300 into Adelaide.

Then it was off to deal with Australian Border Force, or as I quickly discovered, it’s more like Australian Border Farce. Like the smart gates that are designed to speed up entry into Australia, only two were being used and didn’t work properly etc. all this worked great in New Zealand, but not back home in Australia.

Great flights and I can recommend Air New Zealand.
