A continuation of turboprop touring in Queensland.

This particular trip came about after seeing some photos from palmjet, who has done many of these flights in the past, including this one.

When I first booked, the flight was routed Cairns, Aurukun, Weipa, Bamaga and Horn island, with the return leg, Horn Island, Cairns direct.

Fares were $Au329 each way.

However, the routing has now changed after Skytrans went to more direct routes instead of the "milk run" type route. Was looking forward to stops at Aurukun and Weipa, but the rescheduled flight means I will spend more time on Horn Island instead.

Was originally scheduled.for Monday 12 June 2017, but when my flight was changed, I was rescheduled onto the Wednesday flight, instead of Monday.

Check in was quick and straightforward. No one in front of me.

Boarding pass is retro being hand written. Seat 6A.
Security was also quick, even with the random explosives check. Staff were friendly.

Then came an announcement that the gate has changed to 19 and I'm thinking 'here we go, is it about to be cancelled or something'. Thankfully no. I haven't jinxed it so far.

Boarding was called soon after. A short walk across the tarmac. No one hassled me about taking a quick photo of the plane.

A friendly welcome onboard. Interior doesn't look too bad for a 1986 vintage Dash8. This aircraft wears the new maroon and white livery.
Load is about 70%. All window seats taken with some empty aisle seats.
A slight delay for that passenger who is always late.

The seat next to me was occupied.

Takeoff roll was short and quite noisy.

Cabin noise is lower in the cruise.

Water was handed out. Later breakfast was offered. Croissant, almond and chocolate bar and fruit juice. Quite filling and croissant was fresh.

Spent the late morning and afternoon at Horn Island airport.

Was surprised by how much activity there was, mostly BN Islanders and Cessna Caravans going out to the smaller islands in the Torres Strait.

Spent the last couple of hours close to the terminal.

Boarding was called just after 4 PM. Boarding was quickly done as there were only about 15 passengers on this flight.

There are no x ray machines at these outback airports.

Shame the rest of Cape York Peninsula was hidden by cloud. However as the sun got lower it made the clouds turn various shades of orange.

As the flight went on, it started to prove too much for a baby whose mother was trying to stop it crying too much, with little success, until the flight attendant stepped in. She did have some success for a while in helping keep the baby calm.

It did get a bit bumpy at one stage as we were flying between two cloud layers, which also meant the descent into Cairns was a bit rough.

Was dark by the time we landed. A quick goodbye to the crew and it was off to tackle the maze of passageways that greet regional passengers arriving from non secured regional/outback airports.
