Vologda Air - Yakovlev Yak-40 VKO-UUOS Passenger Flight Experience

Mon May 15, 2017 2:45 pm

This is a photo report of my fligh on rare type Yak-40 from Moscow Vnukovo airport to Stariy Oskol.

2017-03-06
VKO-UUOS
Vologda Air, flight VGV2395
Departure: 09:15
Arrival: 10:35
Actual Block Time: 1h20 (Real Flight time - 1h)
Seat: 3D Economy Class
Yakovlev Yak 40 (RA-88251)
Distance: 476 km

That was a first scheduled passenger flight to Stary Oskol in recent years. Now that route served 4 times a week. Tickets from 50 USD OW.
I was the only passenger on this flight. In addition to me flew several representatives of media from Stary Oskol.
This is the second route where you can fly by Yak-40 from Moscow. First - Vologda (VGD) - Moscow Vnukovo (VKO).
My flight can be viewed on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ULQNjFwqRs&

The weather in Moscow was disgusting - drizzle, fog and low clouds, but the area of Stary Oskol cleared up and I was able to take some photos.

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.

What a quirky airline this is. I just did a quick bit of research and found out that this airline operates 12 aircraft dates back to 1931 - quite an achievement to still be operating today. And also to be operating such interesting vintage aircraft.

I paid for that flight 4600 rub (~$80), but now it's twice cheaper - about $40.

Thanks!
1931 - the year the airline was founded.
Now they have 5 Yak-40, 2 An-2 and 8 Mi-8 helicopters (at least 4 of them are active). Oldest plane - Yak-40 (reg, RA-87494) - it was built in 1976.

How easy is it to book flights online? I would like to fly on a Yak! I'm coming from Los Angeles so I imagine Aeroflot is the fastest option to take me there!

Stary Oskol airport don't have IATA code, so that flight can be booked only through russian agencies. You can try https://booking.agent.ru/ - that agency have english version of ther website. Moreover you can buy ticket in Moscow at any tickets office.

Also I would advise you not to fly to Stary Oskol, but to Vologda - that town is much more interesting for the tourist.
Moscow - Vologda is also served by Vologda Air Yak-40, but only twice a week - on tuesdays and thursdays.
