Pre Screening - Color Cast? (RonS)

Wed Sep 23, 2009 12:27 am

Hhmm, this didn't come out right I don't think!  Smile

Was it the rising sun casting some wierd colors or did I mess the colors up in my editing?

Thanks,

Ron

Ron,

Being color blind, I can't unfortunately comment on the color cast. But I see jaggies underneath the wing and maybe a bit on the logo of the tail. And I think it needs a bit more contrast.

Hi, Ron.

Yes, there's a strong green cast. I played with RGB levels separately and this is what I got.

Big version: Width: 700 Height: 466 File size: 265kb
Colour correction on right side

There's a big gap on the right side of the green and blue channel histogram.

OK, thanks everyone...you've just saved me from another one of my DAILY rejections!

Perhaps the window I was shooting from messed up my colors, I usually do not have to adjust anything when processing, but I rarely shoot from behind glass.

I will pull this and re-edit.

Stil...if you have a second can you tell me how exactly to adjust the RGB? I'm assuming on a Duplicate layer to adjust the Curves, but I've never done that before.

Thanks guys.

Hi again, Ron.

Quoting RonS (Reply 5):
how exactly to adjust the RGB?

Of course. Most of the times, I use levels feature by each channel instead of the general RGB one. I used this image on another thread; it's not your image, but it will show what I'm talking about although it's in spanish.

Big version: Width: 1262 Height: 306 File size: 173kb
From Left to Right: Red, Green and Blue Channels

The histogram is not the same in every single channel and, using this example, you can see on the red channel histogram a small gap on the right side. Your picture needs a big adjust on both the blue and the green channel histogram. Here's your image blue channel histogram:

Big version: Width: 447 Height: 358 File size: 32kb
Ron's picture blue histogram

I usually have the 'Alt' key pressed while adjusting levels. It'll show show which areas are you working with while adjusting the slides. Press 'Alt' and move the right and left slides until some colour appears on the screen. You need to have the 'Preview' box activated to see this. Correct these two gaps and your picture will improve colour-wise.

Good luck with your picture.
