Screening help.

Hi all,
I've gad a long string of rejections recently and need some prescreening/opinions. This photo ( https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/ai ... db3db332db ) was rejected after appeal for blurry and soft. I checked in LR, and other places and it isn't blurry or soft. Also, I will probably post some photos for prescreening in this thread.

It seems a little out of focus/blurry and very soft at best.

1) Looks a bit blurry/soft, especially the cockpit and nose area.
2) Fuselage looks soft/out of focus.
3) Looks fine, but will likely get hit for motive (when we have uncovered photos in the database, a cover will usually trigger a motive rejection).

Thanks man,
i'm still at a loss as to how they can be soft, they were sharp when imported then some sharpening was added in LR.

I have to agree with Kas. Although in my opinion it's marginal, I'm not a screener.

I just realised half of what I think i was doing wrong. i was exporting them with no added sharpening. (sharpen for screen) doh!

Oh, and Kas, about the possibility of a motive rejection on the Cessna 172 shot, It has had a slight livery change since the last upload of the reg. will that still count as a motive rejection? Should I add a comment to the screener?

Looks better but it needs some CCW rotation and it would be a motive issue imo.

Much better than the others, but still a bit soft. This looks much more fixable though. I'm personally OK with the covers, but others might not be as lenient. So up to you whether you want to chance it.
Regarding the C172, if it has a different livery, then it could be accepted. Please do write a comment regarding that to us.

The only major thing that I find noticeable is that it could use a little CCW rotation. Other than that, everything else looks fine to me, unless other screeners can chime in something else.

There's some borderline OS areas (registration mainly) and it looks a bit flat, other than that it looks nice. And it looks cold there!

It is definitely a bit off-level (Needs counterclockwise Rotation) and it needs more contrast. It is also a bit on the sharper side (as mentioned before).

East coast of Canada, we've already had 2 winter snowstorms and its freezing almost all the time. Ok thanks guys, ill re-queue it with the CCW rotation fix. Although I must ask, what does OS areas mean? And How are they flat?

Flat means low contrast: That used to irritate me as well

OS= Oversharpened. In your case the cheatline and the titles show some jaggies (lines aren't straight, but jagged). Typically the result of too much sharpening applied.

As said before I would try a bit less sharpening on a new edit. More contrast will always make it look sharper anyway.
As for levelling use the horizon as a reference.

Still oversharp. The edge of the open door, registration, trailing edge of the wing, and rudder trim tab all stand out to me.

I like the sky colour, still it is too noisy for airliners. As it is it won't make it.

I honestly find the fence quite disturbing as well, although that might be wihtin limits motive-wise.

Sure.
I can't tell what you did though...but I use DFINE 2 Plug-in for Photoshop and that would get better results. One should be able to get something out of ISO500 generally speaking, so that shouln't vount anything out.

The King Air is a bit noisy, but otherwise should be fine.
the 757 is really nice, but nose category is not applicable. That is only for close-up of a nose and only when it doesn't show half the aircraft for example.

Dfine2 should be free, as it comes with Google's NiK software (which is free, just Google it).

DxO picked up NiK after Google dropped it... it's no longer free, I believe.

Just me, I'm not a screener, but I see marginal noise on all of them, otherwise pretty good.
The Air Canada DH8D will probably get a motive rejection though.

DH8D: not a great crop. Suggest to crop on the forward part of the engine (and no windows cut).
-FUWL: fine unless there are uncovered frames in the DB.
F2TH: noisy sky.
-GKOB: noise (overall), blurry forward fuselage and windows.
-GOAD: fine unless there are uncovered frames in the DB.

Thanks to the both of you.

Regarding the MFC 172, it has had a livery change since the last photo uploaded to the DB, a comment to screener has been added.
Regarding C-GOAD, it is the first photo of the A/C n the DB.
The Jazz DH8D has been pulled from the queue.

Then no problems for -FUWL and -GOAD. They qualify for priority screening so you can tick the priority box on the upload form for those.

C-GYNK: Ok (Unsure about category)
C-GKFR: Blurry, noise
C-GOCX: Ok
C-GWJE: Borderline noise/OS, a bit too tight of a crop
C-GBIA: Noisy sky but otherwise ok

The last four could probably use a bit of NR to the background IMO.

Honestly, i'm not a fan of this crop/frame so i probably will SO this one due to iffy crop (IMO) to make fair decision. But the sky seems noisy and some areas of the a/c bottom are noisy too.

The crop could be a little wider, but otherwise there is nothing wrong with the crop. Can’t judge the quality from my phone.
