Re: Pre-Screening DL747

Fri Aug 24, 2018 7:09 pm

Hi all, here's the re-edits on the MAX 7 and the 130, along with three more. Doing something a little special for 100, so focusing on getting to 99 for now lol. As far as I can understand, the 787-10 from this angle should not be considered double with the one that was accepted into the db already, since it is a different side and angle. Am I correct in thinking that? Thanks!

All except Southwest seem a little too bright, especially the 787-10 which has whiteouts.
Southwest might need a little CCW rotation.
Saudi is low in frame (too much sky)

Thanks Dutch! I brought down the exposure on the 130 quite a bit and dropped highlights on the MAX quite a bit as well. The Saudi does look a little low to me, but I think I'll wait for screener feedback to be certain of adjustments.

So here are re-edits of the MAX, 787-10, and Saudi. Additional/screener feedback on the two from the original post (WN 738 and KC-130J) along with these three new would be great. Thanks!

The Saudi is decently centered, although the empty sky vs busy foreground make it look low in frame. But that's an optical illusion.
The 787-10 seems alright.
The MAX7 looks nice too.

Why is this not taken into account? It's long been said that vertical centering is not an exact science, but perception. If a photo appears low/high in frame because of the background, than it is.

WN looks somewhat blurry on the engine & nose, otherwise alright
The C130 I'm not sure, but give it a go.

As for the centering. Good point. And while I'd also be fine with the aircraft a bit higher in frame, I find the current centering passable as well.

So updates, 130 was accepted, as was 787. The Saudi was rejected for low in frame. Is that worth an appeal? Geometrically it’s actually slightly high. The MAX was rejected for noisy banding and vignetting, so I guess I’ll try again with that one.

DL: blurry (nose), overall soft at best.
Thai: marginal with hints of OS on the tail and registration (why does it have a dutch reg.?)
UH-1: better to move the crop a bit to the left and use 3:2 ratio.
MAX: looks alright.
DC-3: soft on the fuselage.

So some updates...the screening team moved faster than I thought and the MAX/DC-3 got screened. DC-3 was accepted as #100! MAX rejected for oversharpened. Should I appeal that?

Now, for the images not screened. Thanks Kas, must be something with the resizing on the DL. I have no idea why the Thai has a Dutch reg, that didn't make sense to me either. Is it marginal for overall quality or something in particular? I had a mental error going 4:3 on the Huey, so I'll fix that up. Personally I'm not a fan of chopping the front rotor off, would it be acceptable leaving it in frame?

DL 752: looks better now
UH-1: love this shot, looks like it was taken in the seventies or so. The nose could probably use some more sharpening
73G BBJ: windowline is extremely vague (i.e. low contrast). The image could use a little more contrast overall, but I don't think it will be enough to fix the windows.
P-51: not sure about this one.

Hey all,
Thai 738 was accepted, still looking for feedback on those 4. Interesting note, apparently it had a Dutch reg for cabin outfitting. That airframe has also undergone at least 4 registration changes by my count. Here are a couple new ones as well. Thanks!

Thanks Kas! I’ll probably dump the DL 752 then. I don’t see the blur on the 51, but I can try it again. FR sounds like an easy fix. The first P-51 (blue one NL51KD, Delta model) was rejected for OS and blur, and I appealed that per your confirmation it looked passable as well as Evan’s remarks. I’ll have some re-edits when I get back to my editing computer sometime today or tomorrow.

So the appeal also rejected. Quite frustrated. Have one screener and uploader saying it looks good, then its blurry/oversharpened, now its "soft at best." I guess I can see a little softness, but I'm kinda lost. It looked good to me...

Hi all, here's some re-edits. Decided to go with a different shot from the NL51KD series, in hopes it removes the supposed blurry/soft/os issues. Added some sharpening to the other Mustang (Impatient Virgin), the original is soft but free of blur as far as I can tell. Moved the FR higher in frame. Thanks!

N54GZ: Trailing edge of the wing looks OS but otherwise passable.
N51ZM: Front part of the aircraft is borderline soft but I'd say it's passable.
B-1165: Passable
N259DS: Noise on the green part of the fuselage.
N308UP: Tough call on framing. It feels a little low but I checked the image with grids and I'd say it's likely passable.

N54GZ : Slight HIF to me. I would tend to move it bit of lower since the tail dominate a lot upper space.
N51ZM : Partly soft / blurry to me (Iffy). Reducing exposure or highlight slightly would be better IMO.
B-1165 : Tad Oversharpened to me.
N259DS : Tad cyan/green cast. Otherwise looks not bad to me.
UPS : Tad yellow/green cast on the aircraft probably due to morning light. I would tend to reduce bit of it. Iffy level for me, seems bit of CCW needed.

Harry

Thanks Kas, I'll have a reupload of the Mustang tomorrow. In the meantime, this: https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/ai ... 8a4fb9dd78 was deprioritized and I'm not really sure why. Its an unexpected visit of a military aircraft to an airport that doesn't usually get this traffic, as well as a governmental VIP, so in theory covered by two different priority categories?
