You are being warned!

Thu May 31, 2018 3:18 pm

Friends, I want to discuss with you here what kind of topic.
It will be fine if the Screeners are also involved.
At once I will say that I do not blame anyone.
I think that the screener is always right (almost) :-)

Uploading a photo. I get reject. I file an appeal. I get the answer:
Due to violations of our photo upload rules and guidelines, you are being warned.

Here follows a personal message from the Screeners regarding this warning:

"You have been asked multiple time not to edit your images excessively. Your image of F-GRXL has no shadows left on the fuselage even in bright daylight. If you continue editing in such a way we unfortunately have to ban you from uploading images."

That's the problem. Here is a photo:
Image

Honestly, I do not remember what I was doing with this photo. I know for sure that I am tweaking the RAW settings.

As for the shadow on the plane.
The photo was taken at 2.30 p.m. in April. Yes it was not cloudy, but it was not sunny either. Who knows our weather, then at this time in the sky a light haze and the sun is not so active and does not give sharp shadows.
If you look at the shadows, you can understand where the sun is shining from. There are shadows on the plane. They are visible. Plus light asphalt gives illumination from below. And it's great! I tried to use it.

I repeat, I do not want to offend or accuse anyone. Just try to understand and not make mistakes in the future.
I really appreciate the fact that I come into contact with the ANET aviation community.

With sincere respect, Pavel B.

Forgive a lot of text.
And forgive my not very good English.
Simply ANET is important to me.

Hi Pavel, the photo has some sort of HDR-look to me. Did you lighten up the shadows too much maybe with editing? Sometimes I do that, but just a very little bit so there won`t be a difference in the photo and the real light at the time the photo was taken. If you honestly think the light is how it was at the time you should tell that to the headscreener who emailed you. Or you could send him the original photo. Maybe he will response to this subject as well! Good luck.

I agree with Stefan. You might have the shadows turned too high up which gives the photo some sort of HDR-like appearance. If that’s truly how the aircraft is lit though, you should send an email. You could also show us the original file with no edits.

Whenever I adjust the shadows, I will always try to get the aircraft better exposed but at the same time maintaing a natural look. It’s a fine balance.

It's perfectly possible that that's the way the aircraft was naturally lit. If you look at the shadow on the ground you will see that parts of it are stronger than others, indicating that a very small cloud (or band of cloud) was present at the time. The original RAW file should be the proof, however.

Oh! Thanks friends. Exactly. I try to lighten the shadows in RAW. I did not think that it was so bad to anger the screeners.
I thought that the absence of a shadow is good if the details are preserved.
I will try to find a RAW file. I have some confusion in this matter.

Pay attention to the shadow at the wing (near the luggage compartment door) and under the tail feathers.

HI Pavel,

What values were used for the shadow slider and highlight shadow?

Greetings! ;)
Now it is difficult to say, but I think in the range of 20-30. I usually use the "auto" function, and then adjust a little more.
I'm currently looking for a RAW file to say for sure. I'm afraid I will not find it.

Here is the scheme and place of the scheme:

Here are the pictures from the same place (+/- 10-20 meters):

I apologize if I'm giving someone difficulties.

Here is a photo made on 05/30/2018, 15:29:40, the place is the same.
Clear sky and very bright sun.
Settings on the screenshot.
The auto-selection of settings offered me an index of 32 for shadows. I lowered it to 10.

Almost the same shooting point.
I set the shadow to "0".
There are no shadows in the photo. Although the sun is even more severe than in the photo with the "Frenchman".

Something like this... :)

The settings for the Ural offer somewhat of an explanation. You set highlights to -92, whites to +46 and black to -21. That's way too much tweaking.

OK! ;)
I'll take this into consideration.
OK. No problem. I will definitely take this into account.
Your field is your rules.
The only thing, I'm sorry that for my desire to make photos more beautiful, I received a warning - severely.

In any case, it was not about highlights, but about shadows.

And in my examples I showed how the sun shines in this place. There are no shadows.

But setting blacks to -21 means less dark shadows. If you were to set the black to 0 again, the shadows will be darker. And that's what was meant, that the shadows aren't dark enough for that time of day (with the sun above). If able and willing, you can send an unedited RAW/JPEG to headscreeners[at]airliners.net and I'll have a look (likely Monday though, as I'll be away the whole weekend).

No problem. I will do as you say. Shadows means shadows. I will increase my skills in all directions.
I just say that "Warning" is hard.
The fact is that before that I receive a registry just with a note - "Edit"
And a private message - "Enough editing photo"
What does it mean?
All edit photos.
Now everything is clear. But the warning is too much. I believe.
In any case, the Screener is always right (almost).

Now I do not even know. I have some photos on my review. Delete them or leave them. I do not want to get BAN.

It’s a ‘soft’ warning, nothing official. Just a heads-up that you need to change your workflow. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Thank you! I've calmed down. ;)
I'm working on the process.

I see some blurring in the photo. But overall very good. There is a lack of General sharpness of details.

You contradict yourself. Either way, this issue is solved already.
