Post screened images please advice

Fri May 11, 2018 8:58 pm

HI,

After improving myself and achieving an acceptance ratio around 70%, i can't get it right anymore. After almost 30 rejections (only 2 accepted) some advice would be appreciated.

The first one I uploaded was rejected bcs "underexposed"

after I uploaded again with shadow exposure +0.1 it was rejected bcs overexposed and soft.

Another one, rejected bcs soft, halos and noise

Any thoughts, how to improve these pictures?

tx Kris

Hello Kris,
Would you please post the links of those photos here ? Since the photos you posted above can not be seen by us as the function can be only available to the accepted photos.

Cheers,

HI,

Tx for making me aware of that! I hope the pictures are visible now via imgBB.

This one was rejected bs underexposed
https://ibb.co/bW7Ndy

I uploaded it again with a slight exposure correction. I changed only the shadows (exposure +0,1)
https://ibb.co/jfOOkd

This one has been rejected bcs soft, halos and noise
https://ibb.co/gVqTkd

Tx for your feedback.

I have an additional question, I hope it is ok to post it here?
I see a lot of pictures posted in this topic that are immediately visible. You don't need to click on a link to open it. When I look at the image location, it is mostly starting with "https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/airliners/....". How do I need to do that?

tx again,

Kris

Hello Kris,

My thoughts:

The TUI A320: The angle of the light (top light is not the best. It looks like the top of the aircraft is a bit over exposed and the bottom is dark. Overall, the lighting looks very strong and IMO leans towards over exposed.

Easyjet A320: I don't see softness being an issue. But you can see a dark halo around some parts of the aircraft. e.g. around the main landing gear, engines and wing. There's a little bit of noise visible under the wing which can easily be cleaned up. I'd say that the halos was probably the main reason for rejection.

Cheers,

Jehan

Thank you Jehan,

Your comments are very usefull.

Taking it into account I tried to correct the TUI. I first corrected the top of the aircraft (little darker) and the bottom (little lighter) and finally i corrected the general exposure -0.1 to get the overall IMO a little bit lower. (now in 1600px)

Easyjet A320

I reprocessed the picture and removed most of the Halos and noice I think.

Should I give it a final try and upload both again or are they still not acceptable?

The TUI feels hazed (heat haze affaected) and I'm not sure it'll work. The Easyjet looks ok.

Tx for the advice Kas.
I resized the TUI to 1200px and it looks like the haze is gone and uploaded both again.

Qeshm is overexposed and needs the highlights reduced.
The Lufthansa look fine to me.

And another one.
Is the reflection acceptable or is it too much?

No reason why reflection like that (what I call 'sunflash') shouldn't be acceptable, although I personally try to avoid it as it can play tricks with the metering. It can also look unsightly.

It can be motive for a rejection, mostly depending on how much it distracts from the subject. Just to be on the safe side, don't you have any other shot of the same sequence without it?

No i don't, I only took 2 pictures of the aircraft, and the second one is worse. For me the "sunflash" is not distracting and I think in general it is a nice picture. But like I am rather unexperienced in spotting and "guidelines" on airliners, it helps to recieve this kind of feedback.

HI, here is another one. twice rejected because overexposed. The second time with comment "still overexposed". When I check the histogram in PS, it looks OK for me, or am I misunderstanding the histogram? pls advice or share your experience with exposure.

I've had the situation as well where the histogram looks OK but as in this case the image still looks very bright. If you drag the slider on the left side to the right over it improves the overall image. I also think this image needs some selective sharpening: the window line looks soft to me.

OK, tx Jehan, I will certainly try that and correct the sharpness a little.

I just received another rejection for "high in frame". I added again de PS photoshop Prt Scrn, to show how I check it?

Another question, I see a lot pictures uploaded in this forum via https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/.....
How can I use this (for not accepted photo's)

Histograms are a very loose guide only as cameras can easily be fooled - in my opinion the best 'histogram' is the human eye. ;-)

Even though the fuselage is centered, as you guides show, the high tail makes the aircraft look high. Same happens usually with 737s, as those also have a quite large tail. Just place it a bit lower, it will look more balanced.

As for linking images, go to your photo corner, rejected, click on "detail" on a certain shot, and then right click on the shot itself, and "view image" on the contextual menu. This should open the image in a new browser tab. There, just copy the URL and paste it in between IMG tabs (you can select those in the full editor).

Saab looks HIF to me as well. What we screeners use to double check the centering is to look at the thumbnail version (or when using PS, reduce the zoom). At a smaller image size, you can tell that the aircraft looks high.

Hi,
The size of this image is too large to satisfy the quality. It looks pretty blurry to the front part especially the title, front gear, cockpit and so on. Besides, the level of it looks iffy to me i think it could have slight CCW rotation. Thus, i afraid that it would be hard to make it here due to the blurry problem.

Cheers,
Harry

OK thx Harry,

Will try to improve the front part. About the rotation I used the street lights in the background to straighten it. So this should be acceptable I think.

Regards

I would try a bit of CCW, as Harry mentioned. Street lights usually aren't a good reference. The sky can use some noise reduction as well.

Miguel

HI,

Hereby another one that was rejected twice. first time for soft, second time after appeal, Noise, Quality and Soft?
Looks pretty sharp on my monitor and noise is also acceptable for me. Should I downsize it to 1200px perhaps and try to re-upload it?

pls advice.

I would say, using smaller size would be better i think. This one seems to lack of quality at such large size (1600px), that's why there's a Quality reason. Try smaller size. The larger size you use, the higher standard SC hold.

Cheers,
Harry

I'd agree with Harry above re the quality, and it does look a touch soft. However I am baffled by the noise rejection - someone's looking too hard for something that isn't there.......

OK tx, I will try 1200px. and to be honest about the noise, I don't see the problem neither.
