Are Landscapes Acceptable?

Sat Apr 21, 2018 7:37 am

Question ..

Would something like the below picture get approved? Maybe not this picture specifically but more the general framing.

I can crop any picture to show just the plane, but is an approach landscape acceptable for the site?

Thanks

Hi Chris,

Unless there are other factors (like rainbows, other weather/objects, etc.), a photo such as the above would likely get a motive/distance rejection. The landscape in this case doesn't really add to the photo, which just leaves a very distant aircraft.

No problem and thanks for the advice. Being relatively new at this I was just curious.

Chris, the plane in this shot is too small a part of the frame given the 'boring scenery'.

However, there are photos in the database that do show a fair bit of scenery, but as Kas said, it needs to be interesting or something integral to the shot. IIRC, there are similar shots taken at the famous In n Out burger restaurant at LAX, or of course, the beach approach at SXM.

Took me a while to find these examples where the plane certainly doesn't fill the frame to allow some scenery, but the plane is not as distant as your example.

I just commented to show you that there is scope to include a degree of scenery or scene setting in shots here. The key, as Kas said, is that the scenery needs to add something to the shot. Without wanting to sound harsh, your shot looks like a nice photo of a park where a plane just happens to be flying past. :)

Thanks for the advice . and picking some great examples from the database. I will put these into the knowledge bank for future reference when I am framing things up. Much appreciated.

If you have the backdrop, go for it - the results can be stunning.
