Generally looks pretty good given the circumstances but the big problem is that the sun did a vanishing trick on you and rather unkindly left that bright blue sky as a background. Not sure how workable that is for the site's preferences these days. It's also oversharp in places on my screen but that should be fixable providing the original isn't too soft/blurry.

Exactly this ^. It makes the aircraft underexposed to an unfixable extent. I'd suggest to let this one go.

I have gone back and looked at a couple of others from the same series as the one above.

Do you feel these are any better?

The first looks very similar lighting to your original shot. The lighting on the second looks much better given the cloudy background, IMHO.
