Newcomer looking for feedback

Thu Jan 11, 2018 1:53 pm

Hello everyone!

My name is Mohamed, and I'm newcomer as a photographer and as a planespotter. I got my first DSLR in August 2016 (Nikon D3300), and my first spotting lens (the latest AF-P 70-300mm for DX cameras from Nikon) in April 2017.

I'm looking for constructive criticism on my photos to better understand what is liked and what is not liked here at Airliners. I've been following this website since I remember having an internet connection in the mid 2000s, and I thought why not contribute to it with some pictures.

Anyways here are some photos I took recently in Riyadh before having the airport security getting us to move away:

Full disclosure: I use Lightroom to edit my RAWs and export. Let me know if you can see that some things have been over-edited or, in the contrary, could be fixed. I'm still learning how to properly take pictures so Lightroom helps recover some badly shot photos..

Hello Mohamed,

Welcome to airliners.net!

I looked at your images and they seem pretty good. My recommendation is to resize the images to 1200 pixels and edit the resized images (levels and sharpness). Feel free to share any that you plan to submit for screening and folks around here can give you more specific feedback.

Cheers,

Jehan

The Dreamliner is high in frame, but otherwise I agree they look pretty nice.

Thank you for your feedback, and well noted jelpee :)

Here 3 more pictures before I try your suggestion for resizing:

Munich:

Riyadh from the terminal:

In all of these shots, something doesn't seem 100% right but can't tell exactly what it is..

United B777" Needs a tighter crop and some toning down: slightly reduce brightness and bump up contrast. I see some vignetting (darkness) in the corners. Photoshop has a tool to fix this. If you can attend to these items, it would be acceptable for me.
Saudia B777. This image is backlit and will not be accepted. It also need s tighter crop on the left side. Right now it looks "Right in Frame"
Emirates B777: Needs a tighter crop (avoid having dead space on either side); Shows some slight vignetting...not fatal though. Lighting is not the best since the facing side is in the shadow. But may be OK.

Overall you're off to a good start. I'm looking forward to seeing your images in the screening queue and in the database.
