Backlit

Thu Jan 04, 2018 5:14 am

I had this rejected for oversharpened and low contrast, but there was a personal message that said "backlit". I understand backlight is not ideal, but it shouldn't be a reason for rejection. It can certainly be acceptable if not overdone. My question is, if my backlit image is unacceptable, how does is the same criteria acceptable to these sample images I found. They seem to suffer from a lot more backlight. I'm not trying to single out photographers, just using random images I found while browsing for examples.

I can't see your rejected photo (you have to link to the image or something, not to your photo corner), but I'm surprised the F-16 and the Raptor were accepted. The F-16 is backlit and dark, and the Raptor is very dark.

A.net always seems to have different lighting criteria for military aircraft. No idea why.

Yep, can see it now.

Definitely needs some contrast, and it's definitely backlit, though as far as backlit images go, this one isn't too bad. The bright white background isn't doing you any favors though.

Passable for me. I think there's enough "drama" in the image to make it interesting addition to the database.

I would give you a pass on the lighting as well. The quality is a bit marginal though.

I think the shot of the Antonov is acceptable for what it is...IMHO.

Personally I think the F-16 image is very nice for what it is...a nicely-exposed image of a "dirty" (gear and flaps down) F-16 very close to the ground. The motivation for this photo is acceptable. The Raptor shot is definitely dark...too dark IMHO....given the date (November), location (Nellis), and runway heading you're going to have backlighting. Not sure what the motive for this photo is other than uploading a moderately backlit photo of a Raptor with some afterburner.
