Is my camera good enough for this site? (Nikon Coolpix P510)

Wed Oct 18, 2017 7:08 pm

So far i have tried uploading five different times and they were all rejected. The camera I use is a Nikon Coolpix P510. Because the camera shoots at around 4k x 4k, even after lowering it to the accepted resolution it still didn't pass. I also shoot in auto mode, not sure if that matters though. Maybe my camera is just too bad for the quality of this site.

Hi!

It's difficult to say something just with the camera model. It's possible to post here your photos that got rejected? The auto mode it's not the best way to take the shots, as the conditions can change depending from many factors.

Another point: before send to the site you did some editing? The site has high quality standards...so it's better to improve some aspects from the shots, like constrast, sharpening and other things.

Even the bests photographers has some rejections, so don't get disappointing with this. Everytime is time to learn and improve your techinique. airliners.net has a high quality team and members that will help you.

Count with me to help you too. First, take a time to read this guideline https://www.airliners.net/faq/photo_acceptance_guide/

And always you need help send here in this same topic and many members will reply you.

Best! :)

Hi,

I looked up a few of your photos in the screening log:

Under the right circumstances, you may be able to get a photo accepted, but I wouldn't expect it on a regular basis. Have you edited these photos? Because it looks straight from the camera. There are a few issues with the photos that can be fixed, but others can not. For example, the first photo I linked suffers from tremendous heat haze (weather induced) and would never get accepted because of that.
Reading through the acceptance guide that vcruvinel linked will also help in getting a better understanding of what we look for (the guide is a bit outdated, but most of it still applies).

If you take photos of aircraft that are close, not or slowly moving, and well-lit, then you won't have too many problems getting photos accepted. A majority of my accepted photos were taken with a Nikon S6000 point and shoot, so it's not an impossible task.

Sorry for long wait but I did edit the last four. I used BeFunky as a editor for those four . Also the last three were also close and moving slowly. I read both of the guides too. If any of you wondered the last picture was rejected for being blurry, compressed, quality, soft, noise, and underexposed. Next time I'll try using the manual setting.

Dfthu, try to use some manual settings (speed, aperture and exposure) and do some shots to understand how your camera works. If possible, shot in RAW format, not in JPEG. This RAW format is bettert o editing and don`t lose too much quality as well after editing.

Try to set your workflow (how you will editing the photos, step by step) and use some desktop software if possible (If you want I can suggest some). I can help you to set the steps using the tips I got with the airliners.net team.

Some of your shots that airkas1 post the link are possible to correct. If you want I can help you with this! Post the link from the originals and I will help as long as I can and know about. If you take some new pictures post here too it will be a pleasure to help.

Best :)

That would be great but sadly I'm on vacation right now and can't get my photos. On Saturday I'll be back and I can send you the unedited photos.

Here is every raw photo I have with a small enough resolution, all 14 of them. I put them in 1 album to make it a bit easier. https://imgur.com/a/F54d6 Hopefully we can fix these photos!

Hi!

Yes, there is some photos we can fix and are good start points! 2 or 3 suffers from heat haze problem which is not fixable (weather issues, before start to take some shots see the temperature and I really recommend to read this short topic! https://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=921469). When I started to take some pictures most of photos didn't go so good because I didn't know some basics concepts, so let's understad this first :)

Other two basic concepts area really good to put in the list: centering and rotation. You have to center the plane into the frame and rotate to have a vertical and horizontal reference! let's get this photo for example: https://i.imgur.com/hrYnjdv.jpg. You need some clockwise rotation (know as CW rotation) as you see the vertical lines are inclined.

And to start is good to know which software you will use! I recommend photoshop and lightroom and they have excellent options and mde high quality outputs.

Best and let's discuss about this! will be a pleasure! :)
