Postscreening - Banding, Low Contrast, Noise

Tue Oct 03, 2017 4:02 am

Hi everyone,

I just got the following window shot rejected for banding, low contrast, and noise.
https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/air ... d9a321c988

I tried equalizing the photo and cant seem to see much banding in the sky, am I missing something? I also tried fixing the low contrast and noise (seems to be mostly in the sky) in the following edit, would this have a better shot of passing. Also, are there any more issues in the photo that I should be aware of?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The photo does look low contrast, but I don't relaly see the banding/noise. From experience it looks like it will be a tricky edit.

Would the contrast in the new edited version be acceptable? Would that version be worth a reupload?

Thanks!

I uploaded the edited version and it was SO'ed then rejected for banding (again) and now overexposure. I am guessing that the overexposure resulted from the contrast increase? Is this photo salvageable in any way? Or is it a completely lost cause?

Hi,
This one looks indeed has Banding issue in the sky i can see it without using Equailze i think maybe when you reduce noise it appears, to be honest ,your last editing version i don't see noise problem which means that you don't need to do some reducing noise process to it i think. An the exposure seems not bad to me but the Winglet white part of it seems bit of OE but i would say it looks ok to me. Plus, when you adjust contrast always pay attention to the exposur of your photo as sometime they need to adjust at the same time i think.
According to these reasons , i think this one is salvageable.

Best wishs,
Harry

I realized I typed the last post too quickly and said overexposure when it was really supposed to be "oversharpened" instead. Is oversharpening a significant issue in the second version that wasn't present in the first?

Apologies.

I guess there is some banding in the most recent version you linked. Sharpening-wise, I see same jaggies on the flap track fairings in the shadows.

Here's my third edited version. Is the sharpening okay for this one? Also, I feel like I improved the banding situation compared to the second edit, but is it still an issue in this version? What about contrast and color balance?
