feedback on a reject

Thu Mar 30, 2017 7:35 am

Image
So this was an image I submitted that was rejected. Ill concure with some of the reasons, but help me with a few of them. It was rejected for: Colour Info Common Personal CW Rotation Underexposed. Ill give them the CW rotation, and maybe the underexposure. Color was effected by the storm light, I am guessing that it's prefered that your first submissions not be creative? As for the the info provided, it was:
Airline: Lufthansa
Version: Boeing 747-830
Generic Type: Boeing 747-8
Basic Type: Boeing 747-8
Manufacturer: Boeing
Builder: Boeing
MSN: 37837
Line No.: 1494
Reg.: D-ABYM
Location: Chicago - O'Hare International (Orchard Field) (ORD / KORD)
Region: Illinois
Country: USA
Taken: July 18, 2015
Category: Normal/Other Paint, Airliner/Other, Airline/Other, Normal/Other
Caption: Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 D-ABYM "Bayern" has pushed off M13 at Terminal 5 and is ready to tow to Terminal 1 in preparation for Departure at LH430 to Frankfurt

So Please explain how this was a reason for rejection, there doesn't seem to be anything inaccurate there

Also, I would like to know why this was rejected as personal? What do they mean Personal? This one baffles me.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, and thanks for the feedback on the last photo I posted

"Personal" only means that the screener has written a comment along with the rejection. I think it's a limitation of the screening tool, in order to write a note they have to select "Personal".

Hi,

As Miguel correctly explained, the 'personal' only means that the screener left you a personal message. You will find such messages in the rejection E-mail. In this case, that personal message was "strong yellow cast, builder not applicable", which explain the info and colour rejection. You filled in the builder field as 'Boeing' and it should have been left empty.
The builder field is only for license-built aircraft. I realize that a previous user may have used this builder field in error in the past, but we expect from uploaders that they go over the info of the auto-complete function to double check it. In this case, it's easy to delete the builder field and upload the photo without it.

Concerning the underexposed - The sunlight seems to be coming from straight above (= top lit). This creates a darker side of the aircraft. Perhaps some tweaking of the exposure can fix that. So making the side of the fuselage a bit brighter, without overexposing the top of the fuselage and/or sky.

Creative first submissions are absolutely no problem, but honestly, this photo isn't that creative. Just a different angle than what most people will manage due to the platform access (it seems).

The image has a yellow cast to it especially visible in the clouds, pavement and the fuselage. Yellow casts are OK if it is early AM or evening/sunset lighting. But as Kas mentioned, lighting seems to be overhead indicating more of a noon time. Looks to me like this image may have been taken from inside the terminal through tinted glass (brown) which may be causing the yellow color cast. Also, while not a show-stopping issue, even with the tug, the image could be cropped closer on the right side. As it stands, it is borderline Left in Frame.

Jehan,

Thank you for the feedback. This photo was not taken through glass, it was taken on the ramp. As I mentioned the yellow cast was due to the lighting conditions present due to the impending arrival of a line of severe thunderstoms (Storm Light as it were), though you are correct that this was on the shade side of the aircraft.

Thanks Miguel,

That Explanation now makes sense. The odd thing is that I never saw any such comments, but teh explanation clarifies things.

Thanks for the Feedback..

As for the builder information, as you mentioned that is what was generated when the registration was filled in, but I know now to triple check that information. As I mentioned, the Yellow cast was due to the impending arrival of a line of severe thunderstorms..

YOur feedback gives me some ideas for future submissions.

Thanks Again.

Well, actually the color you can be revised you can have a try in the RAW. Or you can use curve to revise it in Photoshop i think. ;)

If you shoot in RAW, then you could use the Kelvin slider (the top slider on the first tab in the RAW menu when you open it in photoshop) to make it more blue.

Alternatively, you could use 'color balance' if you're shooting JPEG. In Photoshop you can find that under the 'adjustments' header I think.
