Request For Spotting Info At Your Airport

Mon Feb 21, 2000 6:46 am

I'd like to try and put together a list of places to spot at various
airports. I've got a small list from the airports that I've visited,
but I'd like to get as much information as possible on other
airports.

I would like to invite people to send me where their favorite
public spotting places are to add to my list. This list
will eventually end up on my web site if I get enough responses.
Please include you email address, the date at which your
information is correct (construction happens at airports!), and
the 3 digit airport code. Post responses in this forum, but also
mail them to me at mnabbott@pclink.com so I can have a shot at
organizing them. Here's what a sample what it could look like:

From MNABBOTT@PCLINK.COM on February 20, 2000:

At PHX
-- Get off SR143 (freeway) onto Sky Harbor Blvd. and exit on the road
(right) by the America West Airlines Hangar at the airport. You can park
at the dead end just past the AWA Hangar and planes land right there in
front of you. The planes touch down about a hundred feet from that spot.

Please be as detailed as possible...it would be greatly appreciated!
Also, please no information about LAX. I already have information about
every possible location to spot at LAX and I doubt I would get any new
information.

Thanks in advance to everyone who participates!

Regards,

At DCA,
Gravelly Point is nice park to watch planes arriving on the "River Visual" for RWY 19. Two ways to get there, by car, go on the GW Parkway North and turn right to the park. Or you can bike to the park which there is a bike route along the park. If you happen to be at the airport, you can walk from the terminal to the park, go to lower level, baggage claim area and walk out the door and head north. There are sidewalks and bike trails to get you there.

Another spot I recently found is located at the south end of the airport. It's much easier to get there by wheels. I live in Arlington, VA and I just enter the airport thru Crystal City side and then I make a right to General Aviation/Signature Flight Support. Go on Thomas Ave for a few blocks, pass the Sign Flight Support and then a left then you must enter thru a gate, I was there on a Sunday and no one was operating the gate, so the gate was open. Just go straight til you see a parking lot for employee's only, which they don't care and park and your right behind RWY 01.
BTW, It's a very unknown spot and when I was there I met another nice photographer. BTW, if you do go, bring a footstool cause the "high" fence will block your view. :-) For feet, I'd say like 400-500ft? Not really sure.
Awesome place to watch them land on RWY 01.
Hope this will give you an idea.
