Rejection Feedback

-Oversharpened

Can someone show me what proper sharpening looks like? I am unsure how to proceed with my editing. The first image was rejected for being soft, among other valid points. And when I tried to add some sharpening to the second one, it was rejected for oversharpening. I am trying to get better at editing, and I suppose I just need some direction and guidance.

EDIT: The left-hand crop on both images are out of the camera, I am using a 200-500mm lens that is too much length for how close I was.

Thank you all! What a community this is.

To me it looks like you have been quite aggressive with noise reduction - giving the fuselage a very smooth, plastic look. That and some motion blur makes the shot soft - and then over sharpened to try to fix it. You shouldn't be seeing any jaggies around the large titles - that is what I would use as a guide for what too much sharpening is.

Harder would be to describe "proper sharpening." If you mean for airliners.net acceptance, look at the accepted pictures - you can also ask for help in the Photography Feedback Forum.

Good luck.
