Nikon P900 vs Kodak AZ901

Sun Aug 12, 2018 7:06 pm

I would not consider myself new to plane spotting, however I am new to the world of digital cameras.
I've been only using two cameras, an old Olympus ultrazoom and recently a Nikon Coolpix L820, for the sole reason that it has 30x optical zoom.
I am thinking about getting myself a new and good camera. I mostly take pictures of airplanes at cruise altitude, so I need as much optical zoom and resolution as possible.
I have been looking at the Nikon Coolpix P900 for a long time now, which promises 83x zoom with 16.1 megapixels, considering if I should buy one.
However, recently I discovered the Kodak Pixpro AZ901, which costs about the same money, but promises 90x optical zoom with 20 megapixels.
I obviously wanted to immediately get the AZ901, but saw couple reviews stating that at the 90x zoom the pictures are blurry and the optical stabilization is virtually nonexistent, even when the camera is not moving and is focused at a stationary object, so I imagine when trying to focus on a moving plane it would turn out even worse.
So, I'd like to ask, if anyone has experience with the AZ901, an if I should get that instead of the P900.

I've seen plenty of aviation photos taken with the P900 that are pretty good throughout my Flickr feed. I, however, would recommend the Lumix FZ300 if you're looking for a bridge camera because it supports RAW (the P900 does not), which will let you maximize image quality via post processing.

If you are less into the photography aspect (don't shoot RAW) and more into just getting decent shots of aircraft, you should like the P900. I don't recommend the Kodak because the AF and stabilization will very likely be inferior to the Nikon's.
