Identifying Aircraft Types

Sat Jun 09, 2018 7:21 pm

Hi all:

I'm very new to this and trying to learn and get started. When viewing/photographing an aircraft, how do you identify the type if the registration isn't clearly visible? I know you can narrow it down by looking at the fleet of the airline, but does anyone have any other identification tactics? I have a few photos from last winter that I'm trying to identify, but I'm running into issues. Thanks!

There are many ways and differences between types to give away the exact one. I don't mean to brag, but there aren't many times when I absolutely never heard of/know the type. If you post some of your photos here, I'm sure we can help you identify them.

If you want to know the aircraft make/model post them here and people here will know and help. If you have a picture of a plane but can't see the registration and want that information then that will be much harder to attain unless you have a location and a date/time of the photo.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I think I have successfully identified the aircraft in question. On a related note, is their any good way to keep up with what liveries are out there. For instance, how do you keep up with new special liveries before randomly seeing one. Also, I have seen/heard that you can occasionally catch a legacy livery still in flight, so how would you know these possibilities.

Sorry for all the questions. I'm very new to this and trying to learn as much as possible! Thanks!
