Uploading 35mm slide collection (not taken by me)

Wed Jun 06, 2018 6:19 pm

Hi over the past several years I have been collecting aviation slides. Which of course none were taken by me is it allowed to upload if I credit the photographer? If this is allowed I was thinking of making a new account with my name and then slide collection behind it. Most slides are from the 60's and 70's and most are us navy aircraft.

Hi!

As far as I know, you can indeed make a separate account for your collection. The name would be something like "Nascarone Collection". Of course you can substitute the "Nascarone name with any other name".

In that case I would personally go for "James Winfree III Collection".

I actually asked myself something similar.

I have quite some slides from the 90's that I bought back then on conventions, and of course I have mostly no clue whom I bought these from or who the actual photographer is / was . In the end "publishing" shots somewhere wasn't an issue back then, so of course they were just sold or even exchanged like this without saying "for private use only" or whatever.
And due to the first problem I can neither ask nor credit any photographer.
I wondered a couple of times if I'd still be allowed to publish them for example on a.net?

I would guess that this is like something an grey area.
In the end I don't need to upload them, I can keep them to myself and be happy..I am just curious and maybe a few others are asking themselves the same question?

In your case, I'd go with the name "Noob Inc. Collection"

But in all seriousness, we have several collections on the site who are in the same boat, so it should be no problem. But we do ask that you create a separate account for collection photos, so it's clear they come from a collection. So please go ahead and upload if you like.

haha, I might do that if the name gets approved... ;-)

I have to see to get a professional scan service first and then I would consider it. Definitely some good stuff like Kai Tak shots in there and all have rather good quality I have to say after checking them again.

I have since added my full name also a couple of questions.

Are older photos considered hot? Because I added a slide last night and it was accepted this morning. Never checked the priority screening box only added a comment to screener.

Also not all the slides have the location on them is it ok to leave them unknown location?

Thanks

James

Hello James

Older photos are not considered as hot but they go to a different queue for any shots pre dating 2002 and are screened by specialist screeners for oldies so they don't take as long to screen as the regular queue. If you don't know the location it is ok to put unknown as the location.

Regards

Paul

By the way. Several tries of signing up for a new account today (on 3 different devices) ended in nothing but a gateway timeout.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible at the moment.
The User Name one can choose there is not the photographer's name under the shots, right? Otherwise something with collection would be too long.
