Substitute for Rydges Sydney airport Viewing Deck

Wed Feb 21, 2018 12:48 am

Hi all!

I've got a weekend to spend plane spotting at Sydney Airport. I was planning on going to the Rydges Hotel at Sydney airport, but unfortunately, i have now discovered that there viewing deck has been closed down for some unknown reason.
My question is are there any substitutes to the Rydges viewing deck that get a good view of the airport, mainly RWY 16R, that is legal and can be accessed via public transport?

please answer!!!

Thanks!
Lachlan.

Top level international terminal car park has a good view. And is accessible via public transport. Or do as everyone else does, hire a helicopter for an hour.

OK, thanks! i'll definitely consider the helicopter! although i doubt its within my sought of budget.
just a quick question about the car park though, i noticed one google maps that there are two multi-level car parks right next to each other, which one would be the best to use? as I'm not to familiar with the area.

Use the northern one, the one nearest the cargo terminal. Excellent views of 16R approaches and heavies off 34L, also good ground shots possible. Some shade provided by solar panels on the top level as well, though make sure you bring food/drink with you and it does get very windy up there.
