Help ID this airline

Sun Jan 28, 2018 9:15 pm

Hello, I hope someone on this forum can help me out...

I was taking photos earlier today and caught a plane high above Pittsburgh, PA. Just curious if anyone can ID what airline this might be based on it's markings? i thought it might be Air Canada or Qantas, but those don't fit.

Thanks!

Definitely not AC or Qantas as you say.
Any chance you can provide a precise time from your camera?
And an approximate heading would be nice too. (I'm guessing it's heading North-West?)

On second thoughts it is obviously Air Canada, of sorts.
AC Rouge!

Take your pick from these...

Early morning (say 8am) AC1671, B763 C-FMWY - nope, scratch that, early morning sun would have put that side in shade.
I'm liking AC1654 passing you around 09:30 (southbound) B763 C-FMXC
Or AC1804 30 mins later ca 10am (southbound again); B763 C-GEOU
Next up AC 1673 around 12:15, but that was northbound and I don't reckon the sun angle was good enough; B763 C-FIYA
AC1741 came thru' at 13:30 northbound, and by now the sun might have swung round enough; B763 C-GHLQ
AC1623 at 14:00; northbound; B763 C-GHLK
AC1807 about 15 mins later, northbound again,; B763 C-GEOQ
AC1883 went thru' next, but passed NW of Pittsburgh, so we'll ignore that one
AC1655 came up after that, say ca 14:45, B763 C-FMXC
AC1713 followed that, but was well east of Pittsburgh, and unlike all the other 767s, this one is still in AC livery (AFAIK)
I believe there were three more 767-300s, but it was getting dark, so I would forget them too.

From what I'm seeing, you get Rouge all over Pittsburgh, day in / day out.

But don't believe me; I'm 3,000 miles away and have never seen a Rouge plane other than in photographs, so what do I know?

Because of the angle, you might have been misled because you are seeing more white on the tail than you might expect.
Plus any red you can see, is washed out by the bright sunshine at FL390.

Woohoo! That's definitely it! It was taken at 28 Jan 2:40pm... so the AC1655 B763 C-FMXC, right?

Thanks!

It was Tampa to Toronto, arrived at 3:25pm (about 45 minutes later). Any Idea around what altitude it may have been at that time?

According to the date and aircraft Info you provided , i searched it in my phone with FR24 PRO Account and it shows that the altitude of it is about 37,000ft-39,000ft. If you can provide your approximate location i would glad to help you find the approximate altitude at your location. :)

Yep, that's it at FL390 somewhere overhead Plum, Pa at 2:40pm, on a heading of 009deg, seconds away from beginning it's descent for YYZ

This should work for you (for the next 7 days only)

Thanks for the link and all your help!

Really my first time spotting airplanes like this. It was a nice clear day and I just kept following the contrails with my 42x zoom lol
