New to photo editing-HELP

Sun Aug 20, 2017 2:51 pm

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I went for my first official spotting trip to YYZ with my new camera. I was told to shoot in RAW and JPEG. I know that what I can do editing wise with RAW is much higher than JPEG. What software should I use? I have never done any photo editing and I'm not looking to do a lot of manipulation, but I'd like to touch up my photos, crop them, make them a.net worthy.

Any tips appreciated!

I would advise one of the Adobe Photoshop CS programs or Adobe Lightroom. I myself use CS6. There are RAW plugins available on the web, which will enable you to open your CR2 (RAW) files.

I mostly use JPEG for my aviation photography unless I am doing night or low light photography. For all other cases, JPEG works just fine and makes the editing process much easier. Today's DSLR's do a good job with JPEG images and definitely more than sufficient for acceptance at airlines.net.

Re. Software, what Kas recommended above will work. As for me, Photoshop Elements works very well (I use version 11). It is less expensive than the full PS CS. My workflow typically includes straightening, cropping, resizing, contrast, sharpening, noise reduction, and dust removal as needed. I do not do a lot of "manipulations"...do not have the time nor the inclination for it.
