Instagram / Copyright issues

Sun Jun 04, 2017 2:57 pm

Hey guys,

was just wondering how airliners.net is dealing with all kinds of copyright violations / infringements on sites like Instagram.

This site i.e. claims to be the official channel for airliners.net
logo etc looks a bit fishy to me
https://www.instagram.com/airlinesnet/

There are plenty of "big accounts" which pretty much copy and paste anything from the internet and benefit from "stealing"

Any takers?

Regards,
Vasco

Not really A.net's responsibility to police individually stolen photos, however they should really take a look into reporting (https://help.instagram.com/446663175382270) that account, since it appears to be impersonating them. I also found this account after a quick search:

https://www.instagram.com/airlinersdaily/

I hate these types of Instagram/FB/Twitter/etc. pages which steal content, because they do tend to attract huge followings and then some end up monetizing it. All off of unauthorized use of others' hard work. Unfortunately, I've found that even if individual photographers report content being stolen, these social media sites rarely take action in shutting down the whole page, even if a pattern of theft is obvious.

Hi guys,

I agree with you that it seems an awful lot like impersonating A.net. I've linked this thread to the community manager, who does the social media postings. He/I will advise you in this thread of what actions taken.

Hi All

We've asked Instagram to take down that page as it is not our page and clearly a page pretending to be us. Will update you once we hear back from Instagram. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Regards

Paul

I wish there was some way for there to be an official airliners.net Instagram page- it seems like the perfect match as a image-based social media platform. Of course, the issue is that the photos are displayed in full and wouldn't necessarily link back to airliners.net itself for view counts and ad revenue.
Perhaps there could be a check box on the upload form where photographers could "approve" each photo (or all their photos) to be posted on Instagram, if they are chosen? I for one would appreciate the opportunity to have my photos shared with a larger audience, under the airliners.net banner. It's nice to be able to keep track of views but the potential exposure is more important to me personally.
I also think that for airliners.net to survive in a internet increasingly visited via social media and apps, we are missing out on many potential opportunities to bring more people into the website and the hobby as a whole. Imagine if the Instagram (or even Snapchat?) account was handed over to a trusted photographer for a day while they visit an airshow, or take a flight. The "live" or "stories" functions of both apps could be a great way to reach a new audience.

Paul,

there are many more accounts that take stuff from airliners.net and post them under their name and benefit and profit from the stolen pictures.

Btw...the guy just re-named the page to
https://www.instagram.com/airlinersdaily/ now...the pictures are still online.

2.) Check also
https://www.instagram.com/aviationdaily/

They are reposting this shot and claiming it to be their most successful shot of 2016

2.1.1) https://www.instagram.com/p/BTeSwGcFI-9 ... ationdaily

Clearly of a.net, Daniel Werner was the photographer

3.1 Megaplane (another instagram accoount)

I probably could go on and on......Who is the right person at a.net to check thru those accounts and make sure they get shut down?

Vasco

Vasco

Thanks for the heads up on these pages and I am in the process of contacting Instagram to have these pages taken down and the appropriate shots removed. Unfortunately they're not too forthcoming with their follow up to my requests as I am not the owner of the shots in question. I'll keep plugging away at them and hopefully they will respect the intellectual copyright of the rightful owners.

Thanks and regards

Paul

Hi Vasco

We've reported the pages but Instagram are not responding to our requests to have the pages taken down. We'll keep trying but as we don't own the content that makes it hard. They want the photographers to make reports and as we don't have an official page it makes it hard for us to say they're impersonating us. We'll keep plugging away and I will ask legal if they can help us out,

Regards

Paul
