Tripod for video?

Mon May 22, 2017 7:11 pm

I'm looking to purchase a tripod for a 4K camera I will soon be purchasing. Primary use will be for filming aircraft landing and taking off.

Are there any good recommendations for tripods? Ideally less than £200.

Thank you.

I don't have a particular model to recommend, but I would recommend getting one with a fluid head and adjustable drag on the panning mechanism. Smooth pans are hard to do unless you have a good tripod head with enough drag. Ideally you want to have to push on your panning arm hard enough so that you aren't constantly panning faster than your target, forcing you to slow down.

It depends. What's your expected working height? Is portability a concern?

Thank you, I read into fluid heads and it definitely seems the way to go.

I hadn't really thought about working height? I guess sitting in a chair or standing. I'm not sure?

In terms of portability, I only have a small car, but as long as it fits in there, that's fine.

Sorry for probably sounding very stupid, I've never used a tripod for video before.

This one seems to have very good reviews and isn't a bad price. However, I wouldn't be able to operate both levers (pan and tilt) and zoom at the same time would I?
