Calling on ARN and CPH spotters, June 20-29

Sun May 21, 2017 5:52 pm

Hi guys!

I will be in Stockholm from June 21st to 25th and Copenhagen from the 25th to the 29th. This trip is a vacation with my father; we plan on doing normal, touristy things for the most part but I'd like to dedicate at least a day to spotting at each airport. I've done some research on spotting at both sites, and both seem like fairly spotter-friendly airfields. Any tips or potential offers to meet-up would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks,
Amrit Kannan

Have you seen this map? Great for finding spotting places at ARN. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mi ... 34138&z=14

Will you have access to a car or will you rely on public transport? Some of the spotting locations are easy to reach using public transport, other will require a car. One of my personal favourite places is the small spotting shed at the end of runway 3 (01R/19L). There is a bus stop near by and you have a great view of the runway, the deicing area and taxiway Whiskey.

Any particular aircraft you are interested in? If you come to ARN at the "wrong" time you might see 737s and a few A320's and not much more.

I will rely on public transport. Will keep your favorite place in mind.

I'm not interested in any particular aircraft; but, with that said, the bigger the better. I'm fine with mid-sized jets but some A330s/787s and similar would be nice.

Thanks for the advice!

For bigger aircraft, the early bird gets the worm. There are a number of larger aircraft arriving in the morning, among other three flights from New York (SAS A330, Delta and United 757s), Icelandair 757, Thai 777, Ethiopian 787 and Singapore A350. And then departing again an hour or so later. But there are also a couple of larger aircraft arriving around lunch time, including the Emirates 777 and SAS A330 from Chicago. As well as later during the day (among other SAS A330 from Hong Kong and Air China A330).

But you can also expect to see a couple of 737-600s, a quite rare version (even if SAS sends them all over Europe).

And if the weather is horrible, the view of runway 1 (01L/19R) from Sky City if not that bad.

Hey Bostrom, sorry for the late reply. Thanks again for the info. I will keep everything you said in mind.

Yes, catching a 737-600 would certainly make venturing out there sure worth it!!

Thanks,
Amrit

Good luck! Hope you get to enjoy some midsummer celebrations as well.

(And if you get any good photos, I'd love to see them.)

I spotted 19L arrivals for about two hours today and had a great time. This was definitely the highlight, as I had never spotted an A350 before.

Thank you, Kas! Yes, the morning started out foggy but quickly got better in time for most of the foreign heavies. I'm way ahead of you; it's already in the queue. :)
