Can you help me. Which lens should i use when taking pics of aircraft flying over 8,000 to 40,000 feet. I live in new jersey where we have some of the busiest airspace in the world and planes fly over south jersey from Philadelphia International Airport
I think you need at least a 400 mm. I have a photo in the database taken with a Canon 100-400II mm on a crop sensor body. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Qatar-Ai ... 61/4162773 Taken at 40,000 feet. You have more chance with a 600 mm I guess. For example the Sigma or Tamron 150-600 mm. But I think sharpness is a bit less compared to the Canon. I you have a lot of money a good option is the Canon 200-400 or 500mm. Don't know about Nikon.
