IMO, one of the best shots lately when it comes to making the viewer feel like being there. Pissing wet under the rain, waiting for the Hornet to taxi...

I know what the weather can be like over there when the clouds roll in. Pretty unpleasant. I got stuck in not just heavy, cold rain, but snow. Not good.

I'll nominate this photo - it has an almost apocalyptic feel to it:

Definitely a "wow" shot, because it was on the front page when I fired up a.net yesterday and I literally said "oh WOW" out loud.

Thanks Miguel and Angad.
Actually I've never been on this thread (or any predecessors) neither and never thought any shot of mine would ever appear here.:-)
The shot was actually more difficult as it might look, as I couldn't see the airplane in the moments before, so I followed with the cam more or less by feeling.

And he's got a whole lot more in the database.

Absolutely brilliant result. What one does not see is the photographer standing in the pissing rain, soaked cold, discarding shot after shot as they are all blurry until... "uhm, this might be THE one".

Well done Wael.

Thanks Mark! I agree it's still a great camera, but in these conditions I'm noticing more and more that I'm pushing the camera to the limits (mainly in terms of noise/ISO).

And I think there are even better cameras around than that one. Not just the ISO, but the quite low shutter speed and absolutely crisp details. All in all, a really well done shot. It's not that easy to do that at night.

That's a tough shot to pull off with older cameras and their noisier images. That 5D II isn't the fastest camera around either**, I used to use them at work. Well done Kas, did that one well.

**We tried to photograph the Formula 1 in schools thing, it was near impossible - the little scaled cars were far too quick. ;)

Hi Kas,
I like this one very much :o !

I am using 5D2 now most of time but i seldom take night shot like this one. May i know that what lens did you use in this shot ? And would you you please share some detail information ? Like is it necessary to use tripod or handheld , and what kind of focusing way is suitable? As i hope can have a try to it in the future ! :cheerful:

Cheers,
Harry

Thanks guys!

The SQ A350 was with my 135 f2 lens. It was handheld and actually a very windy morning with gusts up to 40-55kt. I *think* I focused on the lights (when the aircraft was a bit further out) and continued to track it as it came closer. I just tried to keep myself steady, keep shooting calmly and hope for the best.

Keichi again shows us how it is done:

That's a tough shot to do, unless you have a very modern camera, but even then you still need to know how to pull it off.

And this one is pretty damn stunning too:

His trick is using the available light. In nearly all of those photos he does - although it is dark - there are plenty of objects that are bright, such as background lights from cities or the airport or whatever else. And he is very good at it.

I also love his photos and I do like that style of photo and always have done. Wish it was easier to do something like that around Sydney airport. There is only one location where you can do it, but it'll end up looking more like Motoki Nakano's photo above.

Indeed, very beautiful photos from Keiichi.
