Are there any USAF Analog Flight Simulator veterans out there?

Fri Nov 02, 2018 8:52 pm

I was stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City Florida, from 1978-82 on the Mcdonnell F101B voodoo analog AC flight simulator, made by Melpar, a division of Westinghouse air brake corporation, model MB40, SMF101B, serial number 62630008. There were two Convair F- 106 Delta Dart analog simulators and one Mcdonnell-Douglas F-4D Phantom II DC Solid State sim there. Near the end of my enlistment, they brought it in an F-106 gunnery task trainer simulator, for the 20mm gun pod that was retrofitted onto the F106, to complement its original all – missile weaponry.
I would LOVE to locate a surviving F-101B simulator, or even photographs of the simulator racks and hot – I cannot locate mine. I know the Tyndall sims were scrapped, and made someone very, very rich! Electricity on the Voodoo was conducted through three-quarter inch or 1“-by-3” solid-copper bus bars, plated with silver, running the length of all the racks, and had miles and miles of copper wire and aluminum racks and amplifiers – Lord knows how much aluminum.
