Tropic Air: Fictitious Mauritian airline

Thu Sep 06, 2018 8:04 pm

The new airline will be focussed on providing connections to many secondary cities which yet have a potential of building up greater traffic to Mauritius due to high tourist arrivals. Also, it will offer flights between other destinations too, and will have code share partners on all routes to benefit from traffic connecting via its destinations to Mauritius. It also offers the possibility of transiting via Mauritius from Africa to other Asian destinations.

TROPIC AIR- La compagnie ensoleillée
Tropic Air is a new proposed Mauritian private carrier which will operate a preliminary fleet of 3 aircrafts(2 Embraer E190 and 1 Airbus A330-200), which will be based at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport(MRU) and operates flights in the Indian Ocean, Africa, Asia and Europe, in partnership will other companies on different routes. The company will offer new market ventures for Mauritius as well as providing more flexibility and development opportunities on existing traditional and emerging markets. Also, with its resources being used effectively on specific markets, Tropic Air will enhance the position of Mauritius as an intercontinental hub. The new airline in the Mauritian skies will above all reform the aviation sector in an island with high economic growth prospects and with great potentials in that specific sector, in which our zone needs much improvement and where the need to travel is many a time not backed by sufficient offers to cater for an ever-growing demand from people.
Fleet:
The fleet, composed of 3 modern aircrafts, has 2 different compartments; the Business Class: Classe Paradis, and the Economy section. Each aircraft is configured for optimal usage and provides comfort all through the trip for all passengers, irrespective of class of travel, by combining latest technologies and trends and an ergonomic design of seats, thus making the trip more enjoyable.
-2 Embraer E190
Configuration:

8 seats in “Classe Paradis”
88 seats in Economy
-1 Airbus A330-200
Configuration

24 seats in “Classe Paradis”
242 seats in Economy

Future developments of the fleets may include new airliners in the fleet, described below
B787-800
Considered as a medium carrier in the long-haul and double-aisle aircrafts, the B787-800 is an aircraft adapted to the needs of our airline, as it seats nearly 260 passengers and its long range allows us to discover new destinations with many potential travellers. In addition, the aircraft is a very efficient in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are really low compared to other aircrafts in that range.

B737MAX 7
With an average seating capacity of 140 passengers, the airliner suits the market for medium-haul routes out of Mauritius and also provides the opportunity to launch flights to Asia with a single-aisle plane which however provides much comfort, just like a long-haul plane does. The seats are designed to cater for the needs of passengers, even for 7 hours flights. The B737 MAX will allow for better flexibility in terms of flights between MRU and other destinations.
Destinations
The airline will provide connections to the Indian Ocean, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Europe and also connect those different countries intercontinentally with short layovers. Also, code sharing will allow to provide further connections to passengers from key destinations in our network.

My brain first read this as "Mauritanian" and wondered how many people were flying from Mauritania to Seoul or Guangzhou!

I don't know about traffic to and from Mauritania  , but from Mauritius, there's an adequate number of passengers(mainly businessmen) going to Guangzhou. CAN is also much visited by people from Madagascar(Air Madagascar operates 2 weekly via RUN, but the service will terminate by end of March)
Air Mauritius previously operated flights to Guangzhou but later stopped the service since MD launched flights and the excess supply caused prices to fall and the route to be no longer profitable. Also, as mentionned, Guangzhou flights would be via Chennai, where there are no flights to Guangzhou and Mainland China actually, while Guangzhou remains a very major trade hub in the World and Chennai a very important economic city in South India.
Air Mauritius actually operates 2 weekly MRU-BLR-MAA-MRU flights with an A330-200, with passengers comprising Mauritian and Indian tourists and businessmen, people from South Africa(Durban and Johannesburg) going for business or tourism as well as people from Reunion island going for heritage tourism and discover the culture of their ancestors.
South Korea can be a new market for Mauritian tourism(only 6800 Korean tourists in 2017) while South Africa is also an interesting market to feed in the flights to Seoul, though this implies a 2-stop route(via Mauritius and Bangkok)
Bangkok will be launched by end of October by Air Mauritius with a weekly non-stop flight and another one via SIN.
