This is the place for fictional Airlines appearing in movies and TV shows and the history behind the jets playing them. I'll use Airport (1970) as an example.
N324F was the aircraft that played Trans Global Flight 2. Leased from Flying Tiger.
You can also ask questions here too. Here's one I've had. Supposedly, the aircraft that stood in for Columbia 409 in Airport 1975 was from AA. Did the production company leave the interior of the AA 747 as is, or did they change it round a bit.

Wasn't the 747 in the back of the Top Gear Track the "Skyfleet S570" in James Bond - Casino Royale?
850 passengers in three class, by twin-dual engines, quite the set up for a real airliner, beat that A380..
It was originally a 747-200 (G-BDXJ) from British Airways.
And in real life:
The same plane was also used as Air Force One in London Has Fallen. The Top Gear track lining is showing:

The L-1011 used in Passenger 57 was ex-LTU, painted as "Atlantic International Airlines" still in basic LTU colors.

They didn't film inside the plane. The interior mock-up was built on a sound stage at Universal Studios called 747 Stage.

Is there any movies where a fictional airline name was used and then perhaps later on an airline with that name did actually exist? Even vice versa, defunct airlines which name is then used later on?

Most notably the 747-100 and -200 in Executive Decision from 1996.
The 747-100 was F-GIMJ belonging to Corsair. Was delivered new to Pan Am in 1970. Was scrapped sometime after the movie was made at Mojave.
The 747-200 N707CK was an ex Kuwait Airways aircraft, belonging to Kalitta American International Airways (now Kalitta Air).
She had more life left in her and was scrapped in 2007 at Manston Airport.
Looks like the tail has been saved and is on display at the Auto & Technik Museum in Sinsheim.

That's incorrect, the aircraft was ex Eastern N330EA, never operated by LTU, later operated by Faucett and APA, I dispatched the aircraft for some of the inflight scenes over the Florida Keys.
N324F the aircraft used in Airport, spent many years flying for Aer Lingus as EI-ASO "St Canice", before being w/o as PT-TCS on approach to GRU in 1989 at the young age of 22.

Repaint. It never operated for Lufthansa.
Before the movie it was owned by Kuwait Airways who - over the years - leased it to several airlines but not LH.
After the movie it had the Kalitta Air livery and has always worn that livery (occasionally also leased to other airlines) until she was scrapped.
The tail was probably bought cheaply by the museum and since it was only in the UK not that difficult to bring to the museum in Germany.
That's my guess though...

Bummer. What is with all the aircraft being used in airplane disaster movies being w/o? The Concorde in Airport '79, F-BTSC, was the aircraft that was operating as Air France 4590 that crashed in Gonesse in July 2000. It seems some are destined for the same fate that they played.
