Why did Gemini Jets discontinue 1:250 scale?
It seemed like they were just as good of quality as anything else they made and the idea of retractable landing gear is pretty interesting. Thoughts?

The market just wasn't there, especially after they started making 1/200 scale.

It would have been nice if they could have kept the retractable gear for the 1:200 at least. To. Give it some diversity if you wanted to put it on a stand.

The landing gear on Gemini200's can be removed so they can be displayed on a stand. Some of the early 757's did not have the landing attached while in the box.

The first big die cast model company, Aero Mini, made most of their models in 1:239 scale - except their 747s, which were in 1:290. One of the most sought after Aero Minis is the Eastern DC-8-61, which often sells for $150+ on Ebay.
Gemini Jets' first 1:250 models were DC-8s, and I think they might have been in 1:250 in part because they would be close to the same size as Aero Minis, so people could display their 1:250 Gemini Jets alongside their 1:239 Aero Minis.

The owners of Gemini Jets were huge Aero Mini fans in the 70's. They have hundreds stored in their personal collection. It was hoped that the 250 scale would compliment those original Aero Minis but sadly they never caught on with the collector. Interestingly today there appears to be a small resurgence as dealers who used to sell them are asking if any are still in stock..
