Scenery developers starting to walk away from FSX

Sun Jun 25, 2017 4:24 pm

Turbulent Designs from the UK (several small GA airports including the recently released MBS [Saginaw, MI] scenery) have announced they will no longer support FSX after their release of IDA [Idaho Falls, ID] scenery, starting the trend of FSX slowly giving way to Prepar3d as well as X-Plane.

Which leads me to ponder whether I should port over to Prepar3d. My concerns are their high price tag for their professional license, plus the number of frequent iterations LM updates Prepar3d which from my understanding, requiring the purchase of a new license each time.

I think the future of flight sims, at least for the non- hardcore simmers is X Plane 11.

There is actually a new sim based on the FSX code called Flight Sim World that was just released last month, but it's still a work in progress.

FlyTampa, FSDreamTeam, 29Palms, and Flightbeam all announced stopping scenery development for FSX in favor of P3DV4:

Flytampa, Flightbeam, FSDT and 29Palms future products to be P3D4 only

That leaves Aerosoft, Taxi2Gate, LatinVFR, TropicalSim and others still for FSX.

With P3Dv4 being 64 bit, it only makes sense. A 64 bit platform to develop on is a whole new world for developers (and the end users....my company's software package went 64 bit recently and solved a lot of memory related issues). I am going to be making the move to v4 soon, when more AI models are released to be made FSX/P3D v4 compatible, right now much of them are compiled for FS9 and do not show correctly in P3D v4. My AI setup is pretty important to me as I like watching them more than actually flying.

I'm just glad I get free copies. One of the perks of working for them.
