Create your own airline

Tue May 30, 2017 8:31 am

This is a forum game where you post your own, imaginative airline. There will be NO MONEY to make this easier. The game is now in 2000.

Steps:
1. Airline name - what is your airline's name? (e.g. Air London)
1 1/2. Type - what is the type of airline? Major, Low-cost, Minor, or Cargo?
2. Headquarters - where is your headquarters? (e.g. London Stansted)
3. Hubs - where are your hubs? (e.g. London Heathrow, London Stansted etc.)
4. Focus cities - where are your focus cities? (e.g. Paris CDG etc.)
5. Fleet - what is your fleet? (e.g. 552x Boeing 767-200ER)

Regional - ATR72, ATR42, Bombardier Dash 8 Q400, CRJ200, CRJ900, Fokker 50 etc.
Short haul - A318, A319, A320, A321, B737, SSJ100, TU154 etc.
Medium haul - B757, A310, A300, TU204 etc
Long haul - MD11, A340, A330, A380, A350, B777, B787, B767, B747 etc.

6. Aircraft configs - how are your aircraft configured? (e.g. All Economy. Y: 3-3-3 pitch 19in.)
7. Codeshares - does your airline have codeshares? (e.g. BA LHR-JFK, LHR-EWR)
8. Frequent Flyer Miles - write down the name and tiers of your FF program. (e. g. TT Miles: Blue, Platinum)
9. Member lounges - do you have, and where are your lounges? (e.g. LHR, LGW)
10. Subsidiaries - do you have subsidiaries? If you do, what are they called? Start from step 1 for these subsidiaries. (e.g. London Express)
11. Flights.

There are a few rules -
If you are a LCC, you can ONLY choose Short and Medium Haul aircraft.
If you are a Cargo Airline, you can ONLY choose Short, Medium and Long Haul aircraft.
No making up aircraft. (e.g. A390, or A323, or A318F)
Make sure your aircraft have reasonable lifespans. (don't make your F50 last 130 years)
Helicopters are allowed, but they can't take up more than 20% of your fleet.
You can join one of the following alliances:

SkyTeam
Star Alliance
oneworld
Value Alliance (LCCs ONLY)
Vanilla Alliance
U-FLY Alliance (Cargo ONLY)

And finally:
Step 12: BEGIN!

As our many Avro RJ75 aircraft are ageing, we are now evaluating a list of replacement aircraft for these -
1. More Avros
2. The larger Avro RJ85
3. Airbus A319 - too big?
4. ATR 72-500
5. The NEW ATR 72-600
6. Embraer ERJ135 - too small?
7. Embraer ERJ140/145 - also too small?
8. The new Embraer E175?
9. Bombardier CRJ700/900 - requires new training and range problems
10. Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 - requires new training and range problems
11. Antonov An-148 - requires new training + simulators and low quality

The new Embraer E-175 has been selected as the replacement aircraft for our Avro RJ75s. These have been selected as they have similar size and range, and have a decent passenger rating. The new simulators are now being installed at MAL's Casablanca training centre. We are, however, planning to keep a few (2-9) RJ75s for fallback and charters. We have placed an order for 7 E175s to be delivered in October.
Names:
CN-HJY (Endeavour)
CN-HJZ (Discovery)
CN-HKB (City of Kanye)
CN-HKF (City of Bangkok)
CN-HKG (City of Nairobi)
CN-HKH (Jamal)
CN-HKI (City of Mumbai)

All of our ordered Embraer E-Jets have arrived at our Casablanca base. We are using these jets for flights between Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakesh and Tangiers for crew familiarisation purposes. Over 130 pilots have applied to transfer to the Embraers. We are releasing a list of flights that these E-Jets will replace the RJ75s on:

CN-HJY (Endeavour) - Casablanca-Algiers
CN-HJZ (Discovery) - Casablanca-Oran
CN-HKB (City of Kanye) - Casablanca-Alexandria
CN-HKF (City of Bangkok) - Casablanca-Tenerife
CN-HKG (City of Nairobi) - Casablanca-Tripoli
CN-HKH (Jamal) - Casablanca-Tunis, Casablanca-N'Djamena
CN-HKI (City of Mumbai) - Casablanca-Palermo, Casablanca-Seville.

A further 4 E-175s are being ordered:

CN-IOS (Anne)
CN-IOT (City of Marrakesh)
CN-IOZ (City of Durban)
CN-IOV (Joanna)

Also, a further 10 E-Jet series simulators have been ordered, in conjunction with the 2 E-Jet emergency crew training sims.

We have signed a letter of intent (LOI) for 12 additional Airbus A330-300s.
We have also made a firm commitment for 11 A319LRs for inter-African flights.

What? I can't have my long haul LCC? In real life there are quite a few long haul LCCs (Norwegian, Air Asia X, Scoot, JetStar, EuroWings, Level, etc). That would be my choice of airline.

Let's assume this rule does not exist. This would be my airline:

Airline name: Sheep (nickname: the sheepest airline)
Type: ULCC
Headquarters: Eindhoven
Hubs: Eindhoven, Frankfurt Hahn, London Stansted, East Midlands, Milan Bergamo, Oslo Torp
Focus cities: New York Stewart, Los Angeles Ontario, San Francisco Oakland, Chicago Rockford, Miami Fort Lauderdale, Bangkok Don Mueang
Fleet: 50x A330-300
Aircraft configs: All economy
Codeshares: We don't do codeshares
Frequent Flyer Miles: We don't have a frequent flyer program, we just offer the lowest price
Member lounges: We don't have any lounges
Subsidiaries: We don't have any
Flights: We're not part of an alliance

Re: Create your own airline

A bit OT, but could I include some airlines from this thread in my planned game? :D
It wil be an airline simulator, and I am looking for airlines to include as competition. I would also credit your name somehow (I myself still don't know how exactly it's going to look like, so I can't promise anything).
Thanks, Derek

Re: Create your own airline

Sat Aug 19, 2017 12:28 pm

I'm going to think differently about this. I will take over Virgin Australia. I become CEO with the full support of our new owner... United Airlines.

United Airlines has bought both the Chinese/HK and Etihad's 20% stake (about 40%) and some of Singapore Airlines (12% left) and has majority control. The other shareholders (including Virgin Group) hold the same amount they did previously. Borgetti and most of the board has been removed. Many positions are not refilled.

My first action as CEO is to enter Star Alliance. They have always spoken about having an Australian airline, and the circumstances are perfect.

I would like to work more cohesively with Virgin Atlantic but sadly they are with Delta meaning further partnership is unlikely. I think United's US footprint is key for VA's growth and Star Alliance gives us a massive footprint in Asia and one stop traffic to Europe (SIA and LH). This makes up for the loss of VS and obviously our relationship with Delta.

I believe Virgin Australia needs to be ambitious and expand its international footprint to compete with legacy carriers. Better service and soft product is crucial from terminal to terminal.

I'm glad money is not a consideration, because I plan on spending a lot of it!

1. Virgin Australia
2. VA/VOZ
3. Major Airline
4. Aircraft:
Short-Haul:
- 76x Boeing 737-800
- There is no need for a 738 refurbish. That is simply a waste.
- 40x Boeing 737 MAX8 (to replace 737-800)
Medium-Haul:
- 6x Airbus A330-200
- Domestic configuration.
- 12x Airbus A330-900neo
- We intend to use these on Asian routes to Singapore and Hong Kong and for further expansion to China etc.
Ultra/Long-Haul:
- 5x Boeing 777-300ER (outgoing)
- These will be taken off the LAX routes when new aircraft come.
- 36x Airbus A350-900/ULR
- These will be split as is necessary and will become our new flagship aircraft. Numbers could vary.
- The A350 makes a nice point of difference with our main competitor, Qantas.
- The -900's will be our staple for LAX and new SYD-SFO/LAS/IAH routes.
- The 900ULR will be used on our world first SYD/MEL-LHR/ORD/EWR routes. Assuming the planes can make it against prevailing winds, the USA should be fine but LHR might be difficult at times, it is very exciting for VA.
5. Set your Hubs and Lounges.
- Sydney Airport (SYD) with a brand new lounge, in partnership with *A partners.
- Melbourne Airport (MEL) upgraded with partners.
- We will use United Lounges and Terminals throughout the United States.
- All Star Alliance lounges may be used worldwide for Business passengers or FF's.

6. Frequent-Flyer Miles.
- We will integrate Velocity Frequent Flyer with United's MileagePlus and other *A FF schemes. An executive will be appointed from the private sector to achieve this an improve Velocity.

7. Join an alliance
Star Alliance. We cannot wait to work with UA, SQ, LH, AC, NZ, HA and NH along with a number of other great Airlines. We will codeshare on many of these flights.

8. Flights.
The most exciting part! We will keep most of our current domestic network using our 737 aircraft. Our A332's will be used for SYD/MEL-PER flights.

Virgin Australia will start the two longest flights in the world. We will have SYD-LHR and SYD-EWR flights using the Airbus A350-900ULR. If you want to beat Qantas you need to you need to kick them where it hurts. Melbourne flights will start in due course after the Sydney flights are up and running.

The flights to SIN are intended to take add to SQ's daily flights and allow customers to get on SQ/LH flights to Europe.

VA1/2: SYD-LAX (A359)
VA3/4: SYD-EWR (A359ULR)
VA5/6: SYD-LHR (A359ULR)
VA7/8: SYD-LAS (A359)
VA9/10: SYD-HKG (A339)
VA11/12: SYD-IAH (A359)
VA14/15: SYD-ORD (A359ULR)
VA16/17: SYD-SFO (A359)
VA18/19: SYD-SIN (A339)

VA21/22: MEL-EWR (A359ULR)
VA23/24: MEL-LAX (A359)
VA25/26: MEL-LHR (A359ULR)
VA27/28: MEL-HKG (A339)
VA29/30: MEL-IAH (A359)
VA31/32: MEL-SIN (A339)

9. Other info + livery.
We will keep the current livery. Some of our 737's and A330's will wear the *A livery.

I hope you enjoy this and thankfully in this parallel universe, money isn't an issue.

Re: Create your own airline

Wed Aug 23, 2017 11:24 am

Hello again, everyone.

I originally was about to create a long post about a new fictional aircraft manufacturer, but I have decided against it. Instead, I shall take charge of the new international flag carrier of Denmark, Cimberluft.

Lufthansa (LH), Etihad (EY) and SAS (SK) have each agreed to purchase a 10% share in Cimberluft.

Cimberluft is a large 162-aircraft airline initially based in the Danish capital of Copenhagen, flying short and medium-haul flights into mainland Europe and North America. In order to avoid bankruptcy through over-competitive rivals, we have signed a large codeshare agreement with our main competitor, Scandinavian Airline System (SAS). Eventually, we will expand further into Scandinavia on our own and perhaps take over SAS (insert evil laugh here). We also plan to head into main Asian destinations and promote the city of Copenhagen as a tourist hotspot. This airline was founded in 1957.

1) Airline name: Cimberluft. (This is inspired by the Danish word luft (meaning fly) and the now defunct Danish airline Cimber Airlines, or Cimber Sterling).

2) IATA/ICAO code: CM/CIM (Callsign CIMLUF)

3) Type: Major

4) Fleet:
Short-Haul:
-7x Boeing 737-600 (outgoing)
-2x Boeing 737-400 (outgoing)
-22x Airbus A319-100
-18x Airbus A320-200
-12x Airbus A321-200
Medium-Haul / High-Density Short-Haul:
-5x Boeing 757-200 (outgoing)
-6x Boeing 757-300
-13x Boeing 767-300 (outgoing)
Long-Haul:
-8x Airbus A330-200
-11x Airbus A330-300
-9x Airbus A340-200 (outgoing)
-19x Airbus A340-300 (outgoing)
-15x Boeing 777-200ER
-3x Boeing 777-300ER
-8x Boeing 747-400 (outgoing)
-3x Boeing 747-8i
Ultra Long-Haul:
-1x Airbus A350-900ULR
Ordered:
-20x Airbus A350-900ULR
-8x Boeing 787-8
-14x ATR 42-500 (for Cimberluft Commuter)
-1x Airbus A380-800 (rumoured)
Cimberluft Commuter:
-10x Embraer E-175
-22x Embraer E-190
-8x Saab 2000
-3x Saab 340
-13x Let L-410 Turbolet
-20x Bombardier CRJ200 (outgoing)
-9x ATR 42-500 (replacing CRJ)
5) Hubs, and Lounges:
Hubs: Copenhagen International Airport (Kastrup) (CPH) is our main hub at Copenhagen. Our regional subsidiary, Cimberluft Commuter (CC/CIC), flies from Copenhagen Roskilde Airport to many domestic destinations in Scandinavia and Europe.

The initial BKK - LGW and BKK-EWR flights have been extremely popular. We have ordered a new-build Boeing 737-800, which, when it arrives, will be put to use on the BKK-HKG and the new DMK-SIN flight.

What? I can't have my long haul LCC? In real life there are quite a few long haul LCCs (Norwegian, Air Asia X, Scoot, JetStar, EuroWings, Level, etc). That would be my choice of airline. Have a look at Thailand Packages which is the best.

Alright, this seems like fun, I'll chime in:

A little back-story: After the demise of Air Berlin the central European market is dominated by the LH Group, the DACH region in particular. While there is still a choice of LCC and Charter carriers, there is no second strong legacy-style major carrier for frequent flyers to pick from. If you travel for business, are located in the DACH region and a number of your business flights also take you to other destinations within central Europe, you will end up joining the LH FF-program. There is no other convenient choice.
WE WANT TO CHANGE THAT.
In order for our undertaking to work, we need a strong partner that will stand with us even in hard times. In the initial years it will be extremely hard to get a good grip on the market, because LH will do everything it takes to force us out of business. They will dump their prices on any competition route, so the first years will likely be loss making. Because of that we took our idea of creating an alternative to the LH Group in the DACH region to DL and AA and asked if any of them would be interested in helping us. After thorough negotiations we came to the conclusion to partner with DL. The following agreement was reached: DL receives 33% of the company shares. They provide us with 33% of the initial cash needed, the other 67% will bank loanes co-signed by DL in order to keep interest rates low. They also co-sign the initial aircraft purchases to keep financing costs low. For their troubles DL will receive 50% of the profits for the first 10 profit making years, and 33% (according to their shares) thereafter.

As name for the new company we selected:

1. LTU Lufttransport-Unternehmen GmBH ; in short: LTU

After the death of Air Berlin we bought the LTU naming rights out of the bankruptcy mass. The name in well established in the DACH market. While it was previously a charter carrier, we don't see that as a problem. The name has a high recognition and LTU was loved by millions of travelers for their good service and high safety standard.

2. ICAO-code: LTU ; IATA-code: LU ; callsign: "Lufttransport"

3. Type: Major

4. Fleet:
Short-Haul: Bombardier CS100(25x)/CS300(35x)

Business Class: newly designed seats, 1 - 2 config, 42" pitch, 40° recline, leg and footrest, real partition wall, own lavatory.
PremiumEco: normal 2 - 3 config, 37" pitch, better recline, no slim-line seats, curtain divider.
Economy: normal 2 - 3 config, 33" pitch, with recline, no slim-line seats.

CS100: 9C/15W/75Y = 99 total
CS300: 12C/20W/85Y = 117 total

Long-Haul: Airbus A330-800neo(18x)/A330-900neo(10x)

First Class: generally designed as an open area, no cocoon suits. Each seat has an adjacent dedicated bed that goes with it. Walls around the bed can be driven up to chest-high in order to provide privacy. Seats designed by Stressless, manufactured by Recaro. Each seat has an 42" flatscreen TV.
Config: 1 - 1 - 1

Business Class: also designed as an open area, full flat seats with move-able privacy walls. All seats facing forward, set at an angle of 30°. Feet towards the isle. In the middle section wall can be completely dropped for couples or families flying together. 28" flatscreen TV. Seat designed by Stressless, manufactured by Recaro.
Config: 1 - 2 - 1

PremiumEco: basically short-haul Business Class seat and pitch.
Config: 2 - 2 - 2

Economy: Regular Economy Seat, 34" pitch, with recline
Config: 2 - 4 - 2

A330-800neo: config 1: 6F/32C/24W/99Y = 161 total /// config 2: 36C/24W/155Y = 215 total
A330-900neo: config 1: 6F/36C/30W/155Y = 227 total /// config 2: 40C/30W/179Y = 249 total

ALL Short-Haul as well as Long-Haul PremiumEco and Economy seats do NOT have any IFE equipment. But all aircraft are equipped with streaming quality WiFi free to use for all passengers. They can stream with their own devices and log onto our LTU flight-portal where they are granted free access to the whole Netflix and AmazonPrime video streaming services. The weight saved from not flying around heavy IFE boxes allows us to provide this Netflix + Amazon service. For passengers that didn't bring a device, a sufficient number of tablets are stored at the Purser Work Station and can be "rented" for free, for the duration of the flight.
All seats have USB and outlet charging.

All catering is provided by Do&Co.

5. Headquarter, hubs, focus-cities and lounges:
Headquarter: Hamburg, HAM
Hubs: HAM and MUC
Focus-cities: FRA, DUS, ZRH
Lounges: Newly build First and Business Class Lounges at our hubs in HAM and MUC. Modernizing the existing SkyTeam lounges at our focus-cities FRA, DUS, ZRH, as well as TXL. And on top at HAM and MUC we will also feature small PremiumEco lounges.

6. Frequent-Flyer program: SkyGulls (designed to align nicely with Deltas SkyMiles)
--> little sneak-peak for later, the sea-gull being the unofficial bird of Hamburg it becomes the new heraldic animal for LTU.

7. Alliance: SkyTeam

8. Flights:

HAM is our primary short-haul hub, beyond the DACH region LTU is specialized in norther and eastern Europe.
MUC is our primary long-haul hub, as we are still in the initial phase of business we primarily fly into our SkyTeam partner hubs for connecting traffic.
Our focus-cities provide direct connection where needed in order to compete with the LH Group.

9.3. Livery: LTU's new colors are red, silver and dark blue. The new logo is a stylized, simplified sea-gull. The main upper part of the fuselage is painted light silver, it reflects a lot and in sunshine can almost appear white. The middle part of the belly is painted red (the stuff that was blue in the old OS livery). Also the vertical stabilizer, the engines and winglets are red. On the forward fuselage in the silver section "LTU" is written in red capital letters. The sea-gull is designed in silver and dark blue and found the vertical stabilizer, the engines (inside and outside), the belly between the wings and on the winglets (inside and out).
The inside of the planes is predominantly silver and dark blue with red highlights here and there.

9.4. Crew uniforms:
Flight-deck crew: (as an airline pilot myself I redesigned them from the usual to better fit my own needs :P )
Black pants and dark blue shirts. No tie, the top button is not even there. The epaulets are black with thin silver stripes spaces rather far apart. Whenever inside no jacket is worn. For outside crews get dark brown leather jackets with removable sheepskin on the inside.
Cabin crew:
Female: choice of pants + blouse, skirt + blouse or dress. Dark blue pantyhose. Rest of the uniform also dark blue with red highlights and silver stripes on the jacket (one for FA, two for Purser). Red/silver neck-pieces.
Male: dark blue pants and shirts with red highlights. Silver and blue tie, red tie pin. Dark blue jackets with silver stripes analog to female colleges.

Hope you enjoyed my presentation of LTU.

Greets,
T1a
