opinions about selling 1/200 collection

Good morning,
I've decided to sell my entire 1/200 die cast collection (Approximately 104 aircraft). They are Gemini/In Flight/Aviation 200/Western/HobbyMaster/AeroClassics. They consist of airlines that were prominent in my childhood up to college. (late 50's, 60's, and 70's). Most are in perfect condition and some are not. I'm not one to keep them boxed up so they are on display. They range from the size of a Continental/United Viscount to a National DC-10.
My question is, are these models less desired than current airline paint schemes? A lot of my collection are of airlines that don't exist any more either due to bankruptcy or merger.
(Lots of original Braniff jelly bean, Northeast, Mohawk, Piedmont, Northwest, Continental, Delta, Air West, Western, etc.)
I also have a large collection of 1/400 Gemini jet models. In your opinion is that scale more popular (the same goes for those...older airline paint schemes).?
I am totally ignorant on the subject of value and ability to sell them. The most frustrating part of collecting them is the continual landing gear breakage. Even though I am very careful with them, they are so incredibly fragile. That's for anyone's opinion! Have a great day!

It's a good question .. I'm thinking of getting rid of all my 1/400s - and some of my 1/200s - they just take up too much space.

I don't think there's a which scale is more popular issue - it's more of a how much $$$ do you have to spend, how much space do you have, do you collect a specific airline, specific airplane, etc. I think both scales have their fans - and then there's the 1/500 group too.

Ebay is a good option for selling - though that can be pretty time consuming. There's also a diecastaircraftforum (dotcom) - which has message sections about 1/400s, 1/200s plus a buying/selling message section.

My interests kind of cross yours - 1950s/1960s/1970s .. local service/regional .. Eastern, American, Braniff, Northeast .. I even have some of those fantasy Braniff A380s .. maybe it's time i crack open some of my boxes and see what's inside .. :-)

The millennials go for all the new stuff...If you grew up in the 60's 70's even the 80's, the planes of those years appeal very little to today's newer generation of collectors. So to answer your question, sadly yes the old school stuff is a harder sell.

By the way I am seeking a COPA 737 from Gemini in 200 scale if you have one for sale.

Well, I'm sure every model/painting has a lover to buy, all you have to do is finding them.
I sold several 1/200 models from my collection in the past announcing online. Not all of them to the same buyer but even that i sold about 10 units within a week.
Forget your feelings and emotions for the pieces, and don't expect to make money on it, you'll probably be successful to sell your collection in about 30-40% of a new similar one considering the buyers have to pay for the shipping.
Take some pictures and post it here, probably you gonna have some interested fellows around here. I'm one of these...

I'd absolutley get rid of your models (baring no emotional connection). I've been collecting since I was a young kid and have recently parted ways with just about every piece in my collection. The quality (especially from Gemini Jets) has taken a dump while the prices have gone up month after month. I work in the ops office in Las Vegas so I've held onto a few of the models that come through LAS just to spruce up my workspace. At onetime I was at a high of 200+ pieces in 1/200 scale models and now down to roughly five.

Thanks for the info. That's always been the hard part for me, putting a price on them. I've enjoyed all of them but it's time to let them go. I have seen no mention of a DFW Airliners show for 2017. It has usually been in April? Is interest being lost and therefore everything being consolidated into one national convention? Thanks again
