Boeing's plug doors open outward, through the door frame once the top/bottom panels can move.. Haven't seen the Airbus doors, per se, but they sound similar to the DC-10 and L-1011 doors. That particular design keeps the door within the confines of the fuselage (doesn't open outwards) and lifts it up out of the way. Since the door is still larger than the frame, it still acts as a "plug" once the cabin is pressurized. Still a plug door, just a different design.
