KEGE (Eagle, CO) Instrument Approaches Question

Thu Jan 10, 2019 1:34 pm

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking for general information regarding the instrument approaches into EGE airport. Any insight is appreciated.

But a more specific question that I have, having a hard time finding an answer, is why do they have 2 LOC antennas?

They have I-ESJ which is used by every publicly available approach.

And then they have I-VAZ. Not utilized in any public approach and is referenced in the National Flight Data Center (NFDC) as a LOC for runway 25X. I can only find this LOC referenced in an old document about the LOC FMS approach.

Is the LOC-FMS approach still in use in EGE? And why would that approach require a different LOC antenna?

I'd call Denver TRACON or better yet EGE Tower and ask the question about the LOC FMS RWY 25 approach.

Without doing any research, is the LOC to 25X a hold-over from the runway reconstruction? But that was quite a few years ago - IIRC, they were using the taxiway as the runway then.

Eagle has two approaches; the RNAV (GPS)-D, and the LDA Rwy 25.

The LDA is a localizer directional aid, IESJ. The RNAV does not use the localizer.

There is no runway 25X.

There is a valid LOC FMS approach for 25 using the I-VAZ antenna. It’s the 11-9 chart revision date 18 Dec 2015 special aircraft and aircrew authorization required.

The inbound course is 246 3 degree localizer offset with a 4.97 degree descent angle to EAZZY and a 2.97 degree descent angle between EAZZY and runway 25.
Bonus animus sit, ab experientia. Quod salvatum fuerit de malis usu venit judicium.
