A320neo engine model swap

Tue Oct 16, 2018 2:31 pm

Hi all

We know that airlines can swap between RR & GE engines on the B787 (albeit with quite some work and no doubt at some cost) should they choose to do so.

Has the A320neo family been designed to allow the same thing? Could an airline ‘relatively easily’ change the engines from PW to CFM or vice versa, in the same way as the B787.

Thanks in advance for the info!

Cheers

Aernova talks about pylon design and Leap 1A exclusively:

Elsewhere I found that Airbus wanted a unified pylon.
so the pylon might be the same but the engine interface may be different.

787 went from engine common pylon interface and manufacturer swap no more hassle than exchange same source engines to Lots of Work and you have to change the pylon too. i.e. nobody in his right mind will do it.

On the A320 Neo, with different engines comes a different pylon design. So the answer is No, Practically and financially not advisable.
