A330 different size flap fairings

Wed Jul 11, 2018 2:14 pm

Recently, I have noticed there seem to be two sizes of the flap "canoes" under the A330 wings.

Here are two Turkish A330-303's, both around the same age (2.3 vs 3.0 years according to planespotters). Yet, it looks like the fairings were sawed off in the first image, while the second image has longer, more elegant fairings. The fairings on the A340 are like the second image.
What leads to the difference?

After L/N 1627 they introduced the short ones to improve drag. The A340 never got them, because they are all pre-1627.
