Technical Information Regarding B757 APU and GCU and others

Tue Mar 27, 2018 4:14 pm

Hi, I am a university student who is working on a project involving a B757-200 and need specification on the APU and GCU used in the 757. I have tried looking through the internet and have found very little useful information. I was hoping to get information on the APU generator, GCU, ELCU, the power converter and amplifier with regards to the electronics. More specifically what parts are used and the poeer ratings etc. If there is any information that is out there I would really appreciate it and if there is another place I can get this information, a point in the right direction would be useful. Thanks in advance.

The APU generator on a 757 is rated at 90 KVA. It operates at 12,000 rpm, 380/420 Hz, 120/208 volts 3 phase. The APU GCU controls the Auxilary power breaker, to connect APU power the the AC buses. The GCUs are controlled by the Bus Power Control Unit, as are the other two engine GCUs. The ECLUs connect galley buses and electric hydraulic pumps to the main AC buses and are not specific to the APU generation systems.

Hi, thanks for the information. I was wondering if you know the specific parts that are used on the 757 and any details about it?

Check a good local library. See if they have a copy of Janes All the Worlds Aircraft.

Or check local bookstores. Sometimes you can find an old copy of Janes cheap. New is 1000USD plus.

The original 757 APU is/was a Alied Signal GTCP 331-200/ I'm sure if you search around the net you can find just about all you want to know about that unit as installed in the 757. Not sure but I think Allleied Signal was purchased by Honeywell some time back.

GTCP 331-200 was originally a Garrett product.

You are probably correct, but it is listed in my Boeing reference manual as an AlliedSignal product. So many of thse companies were bought up during the last decafe by Honeywell, it,s hard to keep track of the name on the door.

E-bay is a good source for Janes books. I got most of mine that way.

As I am a student, I do not have the financial capability to purchase the Janes books. Does anyone have a source that I can use online or a source where I can access the Janes books for free of charge?

A good University or College library probably has one. Check the reference section.

Also, I thought Janes All the Worlds Aircraft had a section on APUs. I checked the 91-92 edition and it had aircraft engines but not APUs. Janes produces another reference book for aircraft engines that you should probably look for.

Hi,

I have found out a little about the GCU and ELCU in a B757 from the Jane's books, but the books still lacked the information that i required. Does anyone know how much the GCU and ELCU weigh individually in a B757 and their maximum power ratings.

Do a search on www.amevoice.com you would find old AMMs of the B757-200
as new Manuals are now part of Boeing Toolbox remote.
