Well and good, but does it really matter? Bottom line is that PW has delivered another unreliable engine
For the customer, it doesn't really matter.
However, try to picture the headlines if the gearbox itself was faulty. The current faulty components can be replaced relatively easy, redesigning the gearbox would be a nightmare.
At the rate they're going, that could happen.
PW2037 and PW4056/60 never met goal on fuel or reliability. Whats to make anyone think that GTF will do any better?
I'm starting to think that there is a reason that the whole GTF concept wasn't done before. (With any degee of success, I'm aware of the couple times it was tried). Perhaps the stresses it creates on the rest of the engine isn't well understood?
