Aircraft Codes

Thu Jan 04, 2018 1:46 pm

I have heard of various codes for UA B777-200, (e.g 77D, 77J and 77Q).

What is the difference?.

Mainly seating configuration. Or ER vs nonER. ETOPS vs non-ETOPS. Or different engines.

Does anyone have a full, authoritative list of all these aircraft codes as used by computerised booking systems?

They are internal airline codes, the code for one airline can mean something different on another.

Indeed. And a single airline can use multiple codes for the same airplane depending upon context (i.e. flight ops, maintenance, etc.). Airlines should use the IATA code in CRS but this is not always the case. For example, Southwest used 73G for a 137-seat 737-700 and 73W for a 143-seat 737-700.
