IFR fix question

Sun Dec 31, 2017 6:35 pm

near Morristown NJ (MMU) are two IFR fixes: http://155.178.201.160/d-tpp/1713/00931IL23.PDF
BADDA and BINGG

are other fixes like this or is this an outlier?

Thanks

There are lots of fixes like that.

My favorite one was ils 16 at PWM. It’s not like that now http://155.178.201.160/d-tpp/1713/00678IL16.PDF
But it used to be
ITAWT
ITAWA
PUDYE
TTATT
IDEED

Loads and loads of these fix naming humor. Look at KPSM’s GPS Approach. ITAWT, ITAWA, PUDYE, TTATT, IDEED. In order, IAF, IF, FAF, MAP, Hold. I thought I saw a puddy cat, I deed. Another fix, YOKNZ, commemorates a defunct restaurant under the fix, Yoken’s Seafood.

Stuttgart (STR/EDDS) in Germany has the two initial approach fixes "VATER" "UNSER", German for the Lord's Prayer - Pater Noster.

In Poland, we have a story from the past: We proceed to BAREK and have Whiskey on board (BAREK is softened Polish version of BAR). Unfortunately, BAREK no longer exists.
On those symmetric funny names, my favorite from Poland is IXIXI (53°41'04''N 019°53'28''E).

Cheers,
Adam

LEAKY BOATS SINNK

MOOVI STARR

WONSA JOLLY SWAGY CAMBS BUIYA BYLLA BONGS UNDER ACOOL EBARR TREES (lyrics to the Waltzing Matilda song)

I thought there was an approach to MUC with the waypoint DRUNK.

So a pilot might say "We are DRUNK with whiskey", Whiskey being the version of the ATIS announcement.

On the Victor airway between BOS and HYA there is a DRUNK intersection. Many years ago I did a flight into HYA and the F/O when he checked in with Cape Approach did say DRUNK with Whiskey as the HYA ATIS was Whiskey.

ILS 1R MCI
http://155.178.201.160/d-tpp/1713/00780IL1R.PDF

In DFW
The legend is that there was a center controller on DFW arrivals that would frequently forget to handoff planes to the TRACON, so they named the fixes:
PLEZE CHMLI JUSST SWTCH THEMM
http://155.178.201.160/d-tpp/1713/06039SEEVR.PDF

Just west of DFW there is a whole set of fixes named after Christopher Robin's toys
Today it's just PGLET TYGGR ROOOO RBBIT but there used to be POOBR, EYORE, and KANGA that are no longer used - EYORE got recycled to somewhere in florida

Recently I flew over a waypoint called ASLEP, which is situated in Germany...in the UK there are two waypoints on the same airways called BRAIN and MATCH.

Possibly you are confusing this with the waypoint GIVMI which is the end point of a SID from Munich. There used to be a SID (I think it got renamed now, I couldn't find it in the current charts...there are still GIVMI SIDs but none with a W Designator) that was called GIVMI5W, i.e. Give me 5 Whiskey (or some other number).

It was quite near the Kennedy compound, a shot at Ted for killing that woman while drunk driving off a bridge. IIRC they forced them to change it.

DC arrivals have a number of patriotic fix names as well. Pretty cool unless they’ve changed over the years. BNA has a number of arrivals themed on music and country stars.

Whoever came up with the SPANE arrival into SLC must have been a golfer. Fixes include BOAGY, DRYVE and CHHIP.

KDCA FRDMM arrival... The entire approach is meaningful. Most notably, WEWIL NEVVR FORGT SEPII.

That’s the one. There used to be another with cool fix names, too, I think. It’s been a number of years since I’ve been into the DC area.
