Interesting (?) flight path PEK-DTW

I know that flights from US to Asia typically follow the polar route westward, but I had never flown a polar route eastbound before. (Correct me, if this is not technically a polar route).

I am curious as to why this might be. This path is very different than the other ones taken by this route (and similar routes at that time of day).

Excellent, smooth flight --- if not a bit chilly!
