How do you calculate engine fan tip speed in km/h?

Sun Nov 12, 2017 9:49 am

Good evening folks,
I'm working on a mini hobby project which requires me to calculate engine N1 fan tip speed in Km/h.
I tried looking online and couldn't find the formula for this.
If someone could explain or place a link bellow that would be great!

Thanks!
Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.

Circumference = Π × D

So if we take a 1 m diameter (D) blade and turn it one complete revolution, a point on its edge would have traveled pi (Π) 3.14 metres. By multiplying by rpm (n) we get the Tip Speed formula:

TipSpeed = Π × D × n

where:

Tip Speed - impeller tip speed (rpm)
D - impeller diameter (m)
n - impeller rotation speed (m/min) x 0.06 = kph
