Loud Speaker Used for PIA In-flight Announcements

Mon Oct 02, 2017 5:19 pm

Karachi: 02 October 2017: PIA technical team apologises to their valued customer for the inconvenience caused on London to Lahore flight PK-758 on 30th September wherein instead of public address system PIA Cabin Crew used the alternative system of boom mike for safety demonstration announcement in cabin after (back side) zone due to inadvertent failure of zone processing unit.

The problem has been fixed upon returning to base by reloading software.

This is the first time i am listening such thing. Is this the standard alternative approach?

Rules, passengers must have a saftey briefing before flight, imagine this is an acceptable alternative under CAA rules.

Without digging out the MMEL, I am sure PIA's MEL allows the use of a megaphone should the cabin PA be inop. It might be a one off flight back or have some other restrictions, but it is not out of the ordinary.

Interesting, I had a flight on Air France a few weeks ago and we were delayed about 2 hours because of an issue with the PA System.

If the PA doesn't work this is a perfectly acceptable way to deliver the safety demonstration and will be most airlines SOP.

On my Great Lakes Be-1900 flights to and from PHX, the first officer stood at the cockpit door and shouted the safety briefing!

If PA unit is not functioning....the Boom mike is a totally acceptable alternate.
Only wondering why would the volume be much higher, its not the Megaphone.
